There are different degrees of dogmatism within the left and the right, it's called the political spectrum.

Orwell was a critic of both extreme left and right wing politics, however his profession as a journalist forced him to lean to an undogmatic left wing stance because he saw fascism as a greater threat to freedom of speech.

I always thought of orwell as more of an Anarchist with socialist tendancys and sympothy with Trotsykism. Also it is more a critic of the soviet union and totalitarianism than of any specific political ideolgy, and we could debate all day weather or not the USSR was socialit.
