blog warning**
i live in a small town, but today i was working (outdoors) in a larger town that you could call a small "city" but without any super tall buildings, just densely populated with downtown areas that have decent amounts of foot traffic, and every hour i heard church bells ringing and playing a song, then they would chime the number of hours. but hearing the bells filled me with joy and it felt almost as if i was in a small village for a moment. the house i was working at was in in a bloc setup, so there wasn't much traffic. this lack of cars combined with the bells made me feel like if i closed my eyes i could be in a town 150 years ago. i realized that the reason young people want to move to the city is because of this dense feeling, because small towns now are so spread out that they can hardly even be called towns. if you look at old sketches of towns, they were always densely centered around the town common and church, then had farm area/woods surrounding, so you basically had the best of both worlds. you had the close knit urban feeling without all the noise and niggers, but you could also walk out of that part easily and go enjoy nature. now you must pic one or the other, you either live in buttfuck nowhere and see your neighbors/friends once in a while, or you live in the city and get a phantom feeling that you're in some kind of friendly territory instead of the frontier. idk why but at the time distributism popped into my head. does distributism deal with this problem?
