Thoughts on Crime and Punishment?

Pic unrelated

>> No.1547134

Crime is fun, Punishment sucks.

Unless it's of the light bondage variety, then I could be talked into it.

When OP said Crime and Punishment, he or she meant the 1970 film Crime and Punishment directed by Lev Kulidzhanov, asshole.

Raskolnikov is the worst murderer, ever.

thats a good thing

>> No.1547189

Raskolnikov is, in my estimation, a spastic. He doesn't know anything about anything and he isn't clever; he just charges headlong into mania and, in realising his mania isn't pulling him through, quickly makes an excuse to exit the area.
I don't identify with nor even like Raskolnikov. I think Porfiry is the golden boy of the novel: smart, calculating, patient, and employed. All things he has well over Raskolnikov.

Dunia is delightful and sexy. I can imagine her perfectly, and she's quite a remarkable women--as most of the male characters note.

The scene with Katherine Ivanovna and her children begging in the street has to be one of the most remarkably bittersweet moments in all of literature. The entire time I was mesmerised by the fact that I didn't know whether to laugh of feel bad; or laugh and feel bad about it.

I didn't say that. If Dostoyevsky wasn't worth reading I wouldn't have read him.

Does anyone know why everyone just seems to barge into Raskolnikov's room/apartment?

As far as I can remember, absolutely nobody knocks. They just open the door and come right in. What? And Raskolnikov doesn't seem to care that they let themselves right in.

I don't like it. I didn't realize this until I just checked my Amazon account history, but apparently it's been at least six months since I bought it and I'm still not done (still another sixty or seventy pages to go). I'll pick it up and make it through a few pages before giving up and putting it down in favor of something else. But I'll finish eventually. It's just boring the crap out of me.

>> No.1547517

I think Raskolnikov would be much more interesting sans redemption.

I really enjoyed this book, a lot. I think it was greatly written. many times, I felt as if I was experiencing everything perfectly as a fly on the wall, and sometimes I even felt the emotions and feelings that Raskolnikov felt because it was so vividly written.
