It's not just the daily mail, there are hundreds of these stories (although obviously it's tabloid material). It's just a reality and the politics of the people involved in the broader effort are very clear, they're always connected to the most progressive wing within the church. There's nothing inherently difficult to believe about this. I don't really understand why they want to be in the church either but aside from that they behave rationally, they want the church to legitimatize their lifes. There's no illuminati necessary here since the individual motive exist.

I don't doubt that abuse in the Catholic Church is widespread, I do doubt that is perpetrated by an elite cadre of secret homosexuals.
