found this quote on several websites.

"Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones."

- Marcus Aurelius.

is this correct? I've read meditations and this doesn't sound like him. I distinctly remember him being a firm believer in god. and that he thought gods did not concern themselves with the affairs of humans.

lol;dr

Yes it's correct,

Marcus Aurelius was an Agnostic at the very least if not maybe an Atheist.

Pascal's Wager

>even though the existence of God cannot be determined through reason, a person should wager as though God exists, because living life accordingly has everything to gain, and nothing to lose.

Creepy tits. Chicks with no areola kind of scare me.

Take it up with Pascal. It isn't my belief, so I'm not wasting my time defending/explaining it.

actually it was a Tongue in cheek thing said by him

Welp, I was convinced he meant it considering he spent most of his time apologizing for being Christian.

In all seriousness, I'm not too keen on christian apologetics, but it does seem to be rather nicely summed up in pascals wager. It does the job, there's no real way to refute the logic of it. All he's saying is that you can't get your picture taken with god, and seeing is believing for most. Then he poses the idea that it's better safe than sorry... seems like a genuine attempt to win intellectuals over.

I see /lit/izens are aspiring to the highest levels of intellectualism and wit. I'm so glad this board is immune to the banal shit throwing that the monkeys of /b/ /soc/ /mu/ /vg/ engage in.
