The question I always have for self-proclaimed Gnostics, but never ask, is if you've legitimately gone through and read the entirety of both the OT and NT. I'm not asking this to try to call you out or act like a moral authority -- it's a legitimate question.

Gnosticism made sense to me too when I hadn't actually read the OT cover to cover, and when I was still early into it. The God of the OT presented by the internet and pop culture is not the God of the OT. Cherry picking stories from the OT, ignoring the background and the entire context of the Covenant, presents a God that is angry and self-righteous and prone to failures and human emotions. If you take the entire context of the OT into consideration, it is so clear that God is still infallible. God is still loving and benevolent. The Law wasn't enough, not because God messed up, but because the Israelites were so wicked and unfaithful. He knew it wasn't enough from the beginning, that's why we have the New Covenant.

Jesus wasn't necessary because the God of the OT was a flawed demiurge, that's a very linear and human understanding of causality. The Law was incapable of being fulfilled because Jesus was necessary.

You're perfectly correct, it is random. The Old Testament is essentially an arbitrary selection of documents rescued from the Temple of Judea, none of them were ever meant to be collected together into a single volume. Some of them are copies of stories from other cultures (There are two Sumerian myths and one Ancient Egyptian hymn in there), some of them are poems or jokes that are lost in translation, some of them are historical documents, genealogies or even propaganda. Some of the songs and stories are just minor variations on each other, some of these minor variations have been haphazardly weaved together to form a single story (Genesis) sometimes both variations are printed in their entirety (Psalm 14 and 53). All of it has been heavily edited over the years to smooth over errors and the results are damned messy, many of the inconsistencies in the Bible are a result of messy editing and there's no way of knowing how many times the editors successfully covered their tracks, Altogether, it's an absolute Frankenstein's monster of a tome.

I have not read the entirety of the OT but reading these quotes are enough for me to realize that Yahweh is evil, there is absolutely no excuse for them

Yahweh talking about how he made people kill their firstborn children as a punishment
>“And for this reason I gave them laws that were not good and judgements by which they could never live; and I polluted them with their own offerings, making them sacrifice every first-born son in order to fill them with revulsion, so that they would know that I am Yahweh”
(Ezekiel 20:25-26).

Yahweh instructing that innocent children and mere infants be murdered
>"Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys."
(Samuel 15).

>We of the Ethiopian Zion Coptic Church declare that the cup that Christ baptized his disciples with in the baptism of the Holy Spirit and fire was in fact a pipe or chillum in which marijuana was smoked. This is a bottomless cup and soon as it is emptied, it is filled again and passed in a circle.
>The sacramentality of marijuana is declared by Christ himself and can be understood only when a person partakes of the natural divine herb. The fact is communion of Jesus cannot be disputed or be destroyed. Marijuana is the new wine divine and cannot be compared to the old wine, which is alcohol. Jesus rejected the old wine and glorified the "new wine" at the wedding feast of Cana.
>Cana is a linguistic derivation of the present day cannabis and so it is. (Some Biblical scholars -- and there is a certain amount of support in early tradition of the view -- have looked upon the miracle of Cana as a sign of the Eucharist.)

>Acts 2:13- Others mocking said, "These men are full of new wine."

>Isaiah 65:8- declares that the new wine is found in the cluster and that a blessing is in it.

>When one mentions clusters, one thinks of clusters of grapes. Webster's New Riverside Dictionary, Office Edition, defines marijuana: 1. Hemp 2. The dried flower clusters and leaves of the hemp plant, esp. when taken to induce euphoria.

>We of the Ethiopian Zion Coptic Church declare marijuana for the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, and for the resurrection of mankind. The fruits of the mystery are remembrance of the passions and death of Christ, propitiation for sins, defense against temptation, and the indwelling of Christ in the faithful.

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, one in being with the Father; through Whom all things were made. Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven. And he was made flesh by the Holy Spirit from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate; suffered, and was buried. On the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures; He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father.
And He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and of His kingdom there shall be no end.

>>15411330
Jesus taught that everyone needs salvation and that a person’s station in life has no bearing on his or her value to God; Christ came to save people from all walks of life. Neither does anyone’s past sins play a part in his ability to receive forgiveness, and Jesus encouraged His followers to forgive others the same way. Zacchaeus was a rich tax collector who was undoubtedly despised by everyone in his hometown, but Jesus spent time with him. Jesus said, “Today salvation has come to this house”. The reason? Zacchaeus had trusted in Jesus, demonstrated by the fact that he repented of his past sins and pledged himself to a life of charity. “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost,” Jesus said to the critical observers. He didn’t care who that “lost” person was, rich or poor, male or female, beggar or king. Everyone needs to be born again.

Jesus also taught the way to God is by faith, not through good deeds. He praised faith and challenged those who relied on their works. A rich young ruler once asked Jesus, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”. Jesus responded with a question: “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone”. Christ was not denying His deity or His own goodness, but He knew this young man didn’t recognize Jesus as the Messiah. In His question, Jesus was pointing out that whatever this man thought made someone “good” was false, because no one can do anything to make himself good enough to inherit eternal life. The Jewish religious leaders at the time of Christ shared the young ruler’s perspective, teaching that keeping the Law of God could make one acceptable before God. There are scores of people still today who mistakenly think their “good” life and “good” deeds will be enough to get them into heaven.

Jesus told this young rich man he must give up all of his wealth and follow Him. Jesus said this not because charity makes one righteous but because He knew the young man’s god was money. The young man only thought he was keeping the Law; greed was his undoing. He turned away from Jesus in sadness because “he had great possessions”. Christ taught that He alone is the source of eternal life. If someone wants to inherit eternal life, he must follow and worship Christ alone.

At the core of Jesus’ teaching is the good news of the coming of the Kingdom of God. The Kingdom is mentioned over fifty times in the Gospels. Many of Jesus’ parables were about the Kingdom. As a matter of fact, Jesus said He was sent for the purpose of preaching the coming of the Kingdom.

Jesus taught that the Kingdom of God had begun on earth with His ministry. The proof was evident: in fulfillment of prophecy, the blind were made to see, the dead were raised, and sins were forgiven. But Jesus also taught that there is an aspect of the Kingdom that is yet to come. His Kingdom is growing and someday will be visibly present. In what is commonly called “The Lord’s Prayer,” Christ said to pray for God’s Kingdom to come. Jesus taught His followers to remember their calling: they are instruments of God’s grace as they share the good news of Christ’s coming. The more people become subjects of King Jesus, the more His Kingdom is visible to the world.

Omg! This! I hate how the bigoted church does not respect our different sexualities and demeans women by forcing them to wear a head scarf! Jesus did not teach this!

>“Before they had gone to bed, all the men from every part of the city of Sodom—both young and old—surrounded the house. They called to Lot, “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them.””
(Genesis 19:4-5)

This harmless consensual encounter is portrayed negatively...

>“A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God;”
(1 Corinthians 11:7)

>“Judge for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered?”
(1 Corinthians 11:13)

>“Therefore I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or disputing. I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety”
(1 Timothy 2:8-9)

>“A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner.”
(1 Timothy 2:11-14)
