is it a good idea or will I get absolutely filtered?

Isn't it worth a try?

it's a good book that even mid wits will appreciate

Very good introduction to Dostoevsky. Take your time with it and you'll probably enjoy it.

If you’re not sure, don’t bother. You’ll only end up complaining about it on this board anyway.

I always found it such an easy read but then again I know of so many people that got filtered by the pub chapter

>> No.15392418

It's vastly overrated mostly because it's way, way longer than it needed to be. Dostoevsky dictated all his novels, and pretty clearly never trimmed them. Demons is a far better work but not about the same themes exactly.

classics are generally overrated because they're classics

Thanks for the circular assertion, contributing nothing. As I said, this book is overrated.

How would someone get filtered by the pub chapter, much less the book as a whole? I've never understood the concept of people getting filtered by books, especially fiction. Non-fiction I can kind of understand seeing as content in some books may be a bit confusing, or way above their current level of knowledge.

>> No.15392541

why don't you read the book and find out instead of making a worthless thread like this

>> No.15392545

i'd agree with this take. unnecessarily long and overstated.

>> No.15392663

It’s about as easy a read as classic literature gets. Like the others said, it’s long so whether you finish or not will depend on how much you actually like it, but it’s not “hard.”

Yo will not get filtered, in my country it's a mandatory read in highschool so even a midwit will be able to read it.

The pub chapter filtered me in high school. I might revisit now that I’ve wised up a bit

>> No.15395838

Don't be put off by the length. It has a linear plot and is easy to follow.

However, Notes From Underground is the obligatory introduction to Dosto if you never read anything by him.

Literally half the book is the main character either lying in bed while people argue around him or wandering aimlessly around the town talking to himself. If that doesn’t interest you, then no
