I've read a lot of fetish erotica during fap sessions, it's generally some of the lowest tiers of writing. I only consider it to "work" in article and essay format, so I've never read extended works.
The writing is usually atrocious and could in no way be called realistic or good. The focus generally lays in describing a scene or sexual fantasy and not in developing that through good writing techniques. It reads like someone recording a sexual thought, only padded with a small dictionary of words and at best, god-awful metaphors.
This leads most erotica to be very dry reading, and only interestable if the subject greatly appeals to you. It's best used as exploring a sexual fantasy in-depth without bothering to create one mentally.
