Based 100 posts difference agreement. Unless the other two children showed interest in manifesting their skill and labor into a mastery of the object, the inherent property rights of the person upon the object, or the external value of the children beyond the flute is preposterous. A flute is made to be played. For the second two children show no interest in playing the flute, it is only the first child who represents her mastery of the flute, and thus the object would serve its purpose of being played, subsequently causing music of fine quality to be heard by those in distance of the girl with the flute. If the object had been something along the lines of a hamburger or bag of rice, the answer would, of course, be different, for the skill and need of those which cover all participants would need further inquiry, but as it stands this choice perpetuates preconceived notions of misplaced ideological malice.

You chain all 3 children to a radiator. Child A is taken out to perform with the flute at venues, you keep the proceeds. Child B is set up with tools to create more flutes. Child C is taught to learn to either make flutes, sell them, or play them, if they fail they are sold to the highest bidder.

well since nobody has actually answered the question...
>What are some of the hardest decisions you have to make when reading and writing?
pro writer here

when writing- i am constantly fighting against the word count. of course when writing for the web, it's not that important but when writing text for a brochure or similar, there's only a finite amount of space and there is always more stuff i want to put in than there is space available. working out what is important enough to keep is a challenge- of course it is not always my decision to make (but getting decision makers to actually make decisions is a different challenge)

when reading- it's the other way around. life is short and there is so much stuff that i want to read. i already have a stack waiting to be read that will probably fill up my entire life and yet i keep buying more books. how do i decide which ones to read now, and which will wait until i am in my 60s? first world problems...

Which of my options will result in the greatest utility? Assuming that all children are telling the truth (not just not-lying, but are saying things that are indeed factual), then it would seem that giving the flute to C generates the greatest amount of utility. I am also assuming that the children (or any observers) will not learn from this event and will therefore not alter future behaviour based on the outcome. If that were the case, then my answer is to long for me to bother writing it down.
Depending on the materials available, I could give it to B on the condition that she produces two more flutes, and then give those to the others. I feel this goes against the spirit of the question, though.

Also is that Shadman?

None are good options, why has child A learnt to play a shit instrument, why is child B collecting materials to make said instrument? If she has that level of manufacturing skill then she should be marketing herself. And why does child C need a flute when food or money would make her life immediately better.

Stupid question, none get the flute, it will be mass produced by a factory that's been nationalised, thus everyone will be able to have access to a flute for a reasonable price.

They should have worked this out before they brought me in to solve their problems.
I give them five minutes to work it out among themselves. If at the end of five minutes they have nominated a child to receive the flute, I will go out and get them the materials to make two more flutes, as a group.
If they have not nominated anyone, the flute is now mine and they can find something else to play with.
It's called parenting.
