"lefty" and "righty" memes are rarely good memes according to Kant. They are created as a means to further a political goal; their prime function, ie comedy, is secondary if even considered.

It seems to me that the question can be reduced to this: Whether the good meme is so objectively or subjectively. Now a thing is objectively good when it fulfills some end (i.e., is useful), subjectively when it pleases. If considered as a pleasure, it is up to the judgment of taste to decide whether the meme is good; if considered as having some end, it is a matter for the understanding. To judge according to the alleged intention of the meme, i.e., to what end it were produced, would be to see whether it be adequate to that end. Therefore, there must be some standard, the idea of a good meme, and its corresponding ideal, the shitposter. If it be that, in the end, it is merely taste, or else a sum of gratified tastes, that constitutes the goodness of a meme, then the models for good memes will be as manifold as those many tastes, and it is perhaps only by chance that we shall happen upon the one that is agreeable a majority. If, on the other hand, it be that any good meme is objectively so, then all will have to agree, whether gratified or not, that some meme or other is rightly to be considered funny or good, the standard being thus situated somewhere apart from taste. Thus, every good meme will bring to mind the archetype of the funny man, the rancorous shitposter, and his carefully crafted wiles. It is my conjecture that these two lines of thought can find agreement with one another, in the following manner. The shitposter is not merely he who pleases but he who displeases. Every joke includes an in-group and an out-group, who are naturally gratified or thwarted respectively. This must be kept in mind, lest it be thought that such a simplistic formulation as, the good meme is that which *pleases* the most, be the decisive factor in all cases. For one has to consider also the potency of the meme as a force of displeasure, as much as it is a source of pleasure. I wager it will be seen that those memes which are the cause of the most delicious satisfaction are also those causing the greatest outrage, that is, butthurt, or, put in another way, those with the greatest propensity for inducing ragequitting, the sweet savor therefrom being arguably the real object of the meme. Thus we approach a standard for memes which contains in its formula not merely the judgment of taste, but also, or perhaps following from, its propensity for buttblasting, for BTFO'ing, the victims of which, left strewn across the battlefield, are in fact what offer to the victors the most sublime gratification, memes being concocted primarily as a means of warfare.

>good motives
Rules itself out.

Let's consider art... Would a painter's motives really make a shred of difference to whether a work was considered a masterpiece or not? What if one painted to voyeuristically leer at a nude model, and another for the sake of creating beauty alone, but the creep produced an uncontroversially superior painting.

The Death of the Author allows others to see the art as it's final form alone. But the inclusion of knowing about the creator, motivation for the piece, or their context in life can massively change the art. A painting can be incredible to you, it may be even better because you have a surface level knowledge of the skill of the creator and their mastery, and then it can all plummet because additional information about them is known that makes them less savory.

Above is all subjective, but say Oscar Wilde: great writer, closeted gay. Not a shock, doesn't change most of his work. Then he goes to prision for buggery and his final works are all reflective of crime and punishment.

Rightoid meme theory is a lot more like Benthem in OP's pic, thoughtlessly manufactured in a way even the most stupid person could understand, Idk how the 15th variety of, "ha HA BROWN PEOPLE STINKY," can get you laughing every time. I agree that knowledge of motive can modulate one's experience of a work, but not to the extent that one could deny virtuosic art or elevate the scribblings of a toddler to such a level (not if they're being honest, at least).
