Went on a date with a coworker. When books were brought up, she told me how she loves Harry Potter. I internally was let down, but I told her about Dresden Files, which may not be a masterpiece, but it's a step up from HP. My brother used to read the bigger hardcovers in a day as a kid. It made feel like a literary genius until he tried to tackle 20,000 Leagues which made him lose his joy in reading. Anyways he's a big shot accountant for Deloitte.

If you are young and not really critical of the things you read you should be able to enjoy them just fine. The first books at least, the later ones are way to boring for a kid, I just saw the movies instead.
