This is why you do your own research and read multiple translations

If you read translations you have no right to complain. Either stop being a monolingual *nglo embarassment of the human race, or deal with it.

i can understand doing research to just find the best translation, but reading multiple translations? who the fuck has the time for that?

I can read English and my native language Dutch. Guess how many worthwhile authors there are in Dutch? Not many. Spinoza wrote in Latin, after all.
Best thing ive got is that certain German terms that dont have an analogue in English do have one in Dutch (Like Aufhebung or Wissenschaft)

look on the bright side, you are a frogposter, so none of this matters and you should just kill yourself anyway.

Wow, it's almost like literature don't owe it to your lazy angloid ass to be instantly accessible, sucks right?
Also, do you seriously think 4 Dostoevsky novels would make any sense to you without the study of the russian history, Dostoevsky's biography, political views, and the many literary works he was responding to with his novels? Just give up and go back to reading Moby Dik.

It's so compare and contrast them, not reading a work again from cover-to-cover. It's especially useful for ancient or religious texts because they are often obscure and have multiple interpretations.

>I have to read crappy translations because I can only read Dutch and English, and Dutch authors suck.

What!? Tons of scholars agree that the literary flowering during the Dutch golden age is one of the few rivals to fifth century Athens. Also I understand that most of your 20th century novelists are grossly underrated internationally as well.

And even so you should be able to learn to read at least German with no effort at all.

How is this even possible? Just go on goodreads and compare them. Usually the best translations have someone with autism behind them who wants to bring the original experience.

Kaufmann's translations of Nietzsche are considered really good, but his footnotes always try really hard to make Nietzsche seem like a soft lefty liberal when he was shitting all over it.

What are you talking about? Stirner, Nietzsche, and the postmodernists were extremely liberal. They all supported 'individual expression' over adherence to group identities, which is literally the basis of all the LGBT/Women's rights/racial equality/etc movements.
