Unless the character is explicitly said to have two legs, I always imagine him with only one.

Do you hear the book in a certain voice? It is Morgan Freeman?

I like to hear books in my head in MUAHHH THE FRENSCH CHAMPAGNE's voice.

That happens to me often. I imagined Count of Monte Cristo to look like a Vampire Knight sort of thing. I could also see Master and Margarita being a Ghibli movie.

as for myself, if the character is good, heroic, or I sympathize with them I imagine them White, and if they are bad, vile, villainous, I imagine them as non White

I picture them as the author tells me and if he doesn't for some odd reason i just paint a picture from the personality I don't really have a go to race idk why but it gets my autistic self in such a twist when a movie character does not match a book if i read a chilling tale of inner city black youths and i go to the movies and everyone is asian it just bugs me to no end i hate when they fuck up hair and eye color! It just bothers me!

This
I imagine every character in the book as a brown mutt at the start. The more good actions they do, the whiter they become, the more wicked actions the more black.
Winston Smith was pretty white at the start but soon turned into a full on nigger by the mid-end section of 1984.

Imagine writing a fantasy novel where people literally got darker as they got more evil. That would be pretty cool. I wonder if the New York Times would give it a favourable review?

(I know some people in Ireland who were taught as children that the soul was a physical thing in the body that got blacker if you sinned. Dunno if they still do that.)
