yes they're all terrible for you just like all social media, but there's some good things you can find in a few boards here.
I try my best to visit less and less each week, sometimes I go a week without coming here.
I really only ever visit lit, g and sci now.
My goal is to leave completely in a few months, making my visits shorter with longer periods between each time.

/a/, /tv/ and /v/ are unusable. /fit/ and /fa/ are boring and slow. I'm not interested in shit like /ic/, /n/, /o/, /news/ or /out/. /mu/ and /x/ are faggot central. /biz/ is filled with boring autists. It's gotten to the point where the porn boards are the only decent ones because at least they stick to their topic (and the bar is pretty low for red boards anyways)

I have a look through /a/ every once in a while, but it's pretty bad, like /lit/. The rest of the site is unusable.

Most recently /int/ and /lit/. Only reason for /int/ is the med coom thread and /lang/

/sci/ is for students who don't know anything about actually applying what they learn

/diy/ is slow, but really good and full of knowledgable people if you're into STEM stuff. Helps that it has an older crowd compared with most of 4chan. I would guess the average age is 30+.

I left /fit/ once it stopped being fun and was overrun by /pol/ and zoomers. I went there even before bb.com and /r9k/ took over and although it was kinda shitty it was fun and there was lots of board identity.

I go to /m/ from time to time, it's the first board I came to on 4chan, during Ideon translation. Also /vr/ for some retro gaming recommendations.

The biggest problem I see there is the huge amount of beginners who want to vicariously live through their favorite fanartist, or fantasy of cool artist guy. Critique and advice are abysmal past 'read this book.' Once you learn self-critique it's pointless to go there.

Unless you're really into hoarding tutorials, or drawing porn fanart on SAI, you'll hardly find any relevant discussion.

even very subjective mediums of expression like music, art, cinema etc. will still be modeled to fit into "objective" criteria that a 4chan poster can use to assert superiority

and on /ic/ it manifests as a very explicit and singular obsession with the judgeable aspects of drawing, i.e. perspective, anatomy, proportions, etc
so there is 0 (zero) interesting or valuable discussion of art in a real sense there. it's almost appalling. and you're right, there's very little actual drawing ability there; /ic/ seems to have a high turnover rate, and new posters fall for the same pitfalls and attitudes

There are several paths to it, but you kinda learn how to draw, advice starts being insufficient, negative feedback becomes unbearable, your work kinda takes off (be it selling your fanart/porn, complete a project, whatever) and leave. Or you fall off in the middle.

And I agree that art shouldn't follow a certain canon, it's not like /fit/ where you gain strength then get big, and nutrition has certain rules. Even moreso, Loomis is ass.

Art learning I think should be project oriented. Also, like literature makes you better the more you read, to be a great artist, you should study lots of things. Exclusively drawing gestures to end up making anime fanart is kind of underwhelming.

I frequent this board, of course, alongside /an/, /g/, /his/, and /x/. All of them are shit. Most of my browsing experience is clicking refresh on the catalog until that one interesting thread of the day appears. I have mostly moved on to other chans, which are sadly dead but have left a lot to read.

It goes back and forth. There's a core of people that are few, and then there's summerfags and /pol/ raiders that cycle between the two boards.

Despite it having turned into a platform where companies and developers shill and force their products and the never ending /v/-tier brand/platform wars (about browsers, processors, operating systems, graphics cards, etc.), it is a great place for asking questions and finding resources related to technology, especially the wiki and generals. It also is useful for staying up to date with technology

It has turned to utter dogshit over the years, but there is always the hope for the rare on-topic threads which can be incredibly comfy and offer an insight in the lives of other anons.
An example would be the Russian anon living in some frozen isolated hellhole in the north of his country who posted pictures of his neighborhood, answered questions and prepared some local dish for the duration of the thread. The chances of such threads popping up are lower by the day, but I keep coming back

It is a pretty comfy board if you filter out garbage like the countless tiktok threads that have started to appear ever since that became popular. I am especially fond of the gondola threads and it is a great board to have a laugh.
