I think I'm moderately well read. I worked a lot harder at it until I hit 20 years old or so, and then it wasn't as high on my priority list.

I still have so much I want to read. I don't think I'll ever close my book and say 'now I'm well read'.

Compared to the average person? Yes.
Compared to someone well-versed in literature? Not at all

No. I never bothered to read the assigned books in high school and it wasn't until the fall this past autumn that I started reading for pleasure.

I hardly ever meet anybody that is even at my level though, it seems most people nowadays only read what they have to in school and then never read again. Or they read obsessively read one or a few writers such as Stephen King, Dean Koontz, James Patterson, David Balducci (or freakin Stephanie Meyer,) and nothing else.
It is quite upsetting.

philosophy major, well-read in philosophy, producing graduate school level work as an undergrad junior right now, breezing my way up and my phd will come only in a matter of time

semi well read in English literature, it was my minor until I decided to drop it to focus on philosophy, but I am still continuing to pursue English off the record, have won over $5000 from different campus writing contests/events

Not one bit. But my father is a walking encyclopedia and a literature teacher. Since I was a kid I was surrounded by books and I've always had a good relationship with my father, so I know a lot about books that I never read. Several times I argued on /lit/ without reading the book, just from what I heard from him :3
