One of the greatest artistic tragedies of our time is that Philip K. Dick’s novels have never been adapted to film by David Lynch. What a lost fucking opportunity. Just imagine VALIS directed by David Lunch. Imagine fucking UBIK directed by Lynch, holy shit that would be brilliant.

lynch is a hack. ubik actually makes sense and is fundamentally a genre thriller. lynch would make it into his usual meandering surrealist trash and throw in some random symbols, crude lesbianism and other crap despite it not being in the book.

someone like nolan makes a lot more sense for ubik. he has a sense of pacing and plot, which is required for someone who moves as quickly as dick.

Lynch would be good for valis. I just finished it yesterday and the fact that nothing happens for 150 pages is perfect for him. I’d love to see ubik done by Villeneuve

Luc Besson would do a good Ubik. Just imagine the scene where they assemble the whole team how he would direct it lmao. it’s perfect. ok but maybe the part where they’re in dreamworld would be too much for him. but he would do the first half of the film really well

it was ok. it did a good job of adapting the book. probably the most true to the text adaptation of a pkd novel

This. nolan doesn’t have a single remarkable film. some good-ish ones, but nothing great

he has a lot of technical skill, but is very poor at telling a good story that makes sense. he's basically michael bay premium.

I have no idea why you think Lynch would be the one to adapt Dick. I'm sure he could and I'm sure he could make something great but I cannot think of any similarities between their work, not even spiritual

>> No.15052981

I don't think it would work out. It wouldn't be PKD through Lynch it would be a just be a new Lynch story in a PKD world.

Ive been reading VALIS and that part where they see that weird film in the theater made me think of lynch. like he could have directed that movie within the book. also the weird dream shit of ubik mixed with the cheesy commercials for the ubik spray made me think of lynch. a lot of pkd stories have this 1950’s americana vibe, which is very lynchian. like think of the weird bimbo doll thing from palmer eldritch (forget what she was called).

>>15052981
that’s fine. merely reproducing a book on the screen isn’t real art. it’s the synthesis that counts. you gotta let the artist each do their thing. it’s the mix of pkd and lynch that would be potent imo

lynch was originally supposed to be the one to make bladerunner, along with the writer of gangs of new york. would've been way more kino.

im reading UBIK right now and the obvious director choice is terry gilliam. the concept is a bit whacky and the paranoia is practically written to be portrayed with wierd dutch angles like in 12 monkeys or fear and loathing. hell the appliances sassing him is straight out of brazil.

rotoscoping the entire movie was a pointless gimmick, it added nothing to the film. they should've just shot it normal and CGI'd the shifting identity suit

I agree it was kind of a dumb gimmick. Doesnt detract much from the movie for me.
