15025714 No.15025714 [Reply] [Original]

I made this thread yesterday but i had to leave before i could really reply and the thread got archived so ill ask again:

What are some good books/thinkers that make a convincing case for nationalism and other forms of collectivism? I feel like nothing can really withstand the critique of nationalism as just a form of projection for those who have no success themselves. The individual remains the ultimate epistemic and moral authority.

Nationalism is like any other form of government, completely unsustainable. Not only is it built upon the disregard and subjugation on "The Other" but the systems and policies created by it will just perpetuate human suffering. I don't think governments are or should be necessary. But I'm sure someone polished the turd that is nationalism, so it just shimmers on the page.

Well, it matters if you can even get out of the liberal mindframe to begin with. You should realize that individuality in the modern sense is also a contingency of historical events, not the be all end all. THe greeks did not see themselves as atomized indiviguals, and if you take pure logic into acount, and that the self is at least in part a product and part of a community, than the thing you call yourself is little more than an outcroping of your family, your community, your nation, etc. WHy do you want those boots? is it because of the influences of your exterior? can you reduce yourself to something that is altogether not a product of a greater whole? Even the want for indiviguality cannot be totally said to be not a collective influence in itself. Do you think that harry potter, or the hunger games, or whathaveyou are not products of a collective identity?

OP here, you said that in a copypasta that's usually just used to mock the position you took, rather than promote it. And i have read some Carl Schmitt, so i was wondering what works in particular youre referring to. If youre referring to him seeing politics fundamentally as a distinction between in-group/out-group, then that, while true, doesnt really adress that all forms of collectivism can be reduced to a matter of personal weakness.
and FYI, im actually supportive of nationalism, but i just phrase questions like this because /lit/ is much more eager to respond when they want to prove someone wrong than just answering a regular question.

well I'm not a nationalist so any work I recommend obviously wasn't convincing for me. But some did a better job than others. The way of men would be a good introduction to the original natural collective structure of humanity the tribe.

I thought my point here >>15026691 was decent. That indiviguality itself is a construct if we take it from either a materialist lense, or even from the observation that most of the self is contingent on environment, either as a embracement or a reaction against. And nationalism being the gestalt cultivation of those we see as part of our extended community.

Yes, it is government that is completely unsustainable, not anarchy.

There will be no need for government organs.

Extrapolotion of biological texts (especially On the Origin of Species and others concerning evolution) through biological determinism can easily justify it due to genetic competition and kin preference as the underlying and natural cause of racism.
