The holy bible.

Because you will need some sort of divine intervention when you see how fucking bad this place is.

Getting dated now, but for intelligent foreigners "White Noise" is pretty good.

"The Moronic Inferno: And Other Visits to America" (1986) by Martin Amis. It's quite funny.

The hive cities are unremarkable hell holes unless you're affluent to afford to avoid the underclass, then the only pull is either: access to variety/frequency of touring music acts, and plurality of exotic food restaurants you could get in any Western European metropolis, but at a higher density.
It's the rural pace of life and small town/city in vast expanses you're after. >>15013869 This is good, post-Gravity's Rainbow Pynchon; for something more direct, David Lynch's Blue Velvet/Twin Peaks (first season) and A Straight Story approach that + Werner Herzog's Stroszek for despair/hollowing out of agriculture in the Rust Belt

I enjoyed Kafka's Amerika. It's incomplete, so the end it's a little abrupt, but i still think it was pretty good. If you are familiar to Kafka's novels and you like those, i think you'll probably like this one too.
Nevertheless, i'm not american, and if God wills it i will never set foot on that cursed land, so i can't tell if it's an accurate representation on the foreigner life on the USA.

This. Not only is there a drastic difference among regions in America because it’s such a huge place, but there is a drastic difference between American today and America 60+ years ago. I know that’s almost obvious but I think it’s really hard for anyone other than maybe Russians or Chinese to really grasp just how different.

"Stoner" feels timeless, and though it's set in America, it only really got popular when it was translated into French in Europe.
