Liking him is not the issue. The point is that redditors who don't have the capacity for actual philosophy have seized upon him, and turned him into their favourite piece of trivia that they can trot out whenever philosophy is mentioned.
He is their go-to story for when they want to pretend they have any philosophical knowledge whatsoever, without any actual reading or study at all.

I agree, and I think the dumbing-down of philosophical ideas and the pedestalisation of inconsequential historical figures is a good argument as to why midwits are worse than idiots.
Genuinely dumb people stay in their lane, and don't bastardise things to bring them down to their level of understanding

Have you seen the pewdiepie video on le Diogenes?
He made it about being robbed, and gave some half-baked ascetic justification for why he doesnt care about it.
If he wasn't so philosophically ignorant and redditbrained, he could have spoken about some legitimate philosophical theories on materialism and ascetics, but instead rattled off the trite memes about diogenes.
