When I was in school I just skimmed the assigned texts and read what I wanted in my free time, when people actually want to read forcing them to read something is counterproductive.

or
b) When it makes their pussy tingle (see 50 shades of grey; alternatively, the entire "romance" genre).

I think the quality of the books isn't in question (although there's are a lot of shit books out there) it's more the preferences of the students and the being forced to read is what turns people off.
Like all artistic mediums, their enjoyment is incredibly subjective and being unable to consume something like that on your own terms can foster extremely negative feelings.

I escaped that mostly because while I was in grade school, my little ADHD ass just ignored what was going on around me, and I usually read whatever I wanted, and I moved to Europe before highschool

It's all ego. Stupid people don't like being talked down to, especially for prolonged periods of time. Books are exactly that, someone smart than you talking one way at you for a long period of time trying to impart something upon you. You can blame it on technology, zoomers, etc. but the result is we live in a culture that makes people think their opinion matters and it frustrates these people on a psychological level like no other. Why do you think they hate reading textbooks or treat teachers with disdain? Beyond the "highschool forced me to read boring things" they do not understand that the conversations and posts they read are simply a new, shorter, less thought out form of communication compared to books. They want the immediate gratification of likes on the pictures of their bodies. They refuse to read anything longer than a hashtag. Our brains have rotted away thanks to the environments made by corporations that use us as the product. No one fucking listens to people who have the authority, specialization, or expertise. Everyone has a law degree when the president violates the constitution. Everyone is a doctor now that covid has us stuck at home. The democratization of fact has poisoned the discourse.

It's ok to not want to date someone if they're a sex worker the same way a women might not want to date an engineer because she thinks his job is boring or whatever.

It's not okay to shame sex workers tho, because 1. it's not immoral since it doesn't hurt anyone (except in some cases the sex workers themselves, in which case you wouldn't shame they either) and 2. You should always shame whores, that way there are consequences to being one. Same way you shame people who abuse animals. This is the fucking lowest point, imagine living an existence as degraded as this, when you're not just selling your time and labour anymore but your very body and sexuality. That this is normalised.

And this is what the so called 'left' is pushing for. Remember when the old socialists compared workers to prostitutes and this was supposed to be a huge insult? Wew, if they were alive today they'd kill themselves.

Fucking retarded neoliberals pushing for the commercialisation of sex. You thought it was bad when culture was turned into shit after it became a factory of disposable garbage pumped out for a quick buck? >Same way you shame people who abuse animals
Completely dis-analogous. If you can't see the difference between two consenting adults trading sex for money and a person abusing an animal who has no choice in the matter, then I can't do much for you.

>This is the fucking lowest point, imagine living an existence as degraded as this, when you're not just selling your time and labour anymore but your very body and sexuality.
Those are some nice feefees you have. But plenty of people want to be sex workers and they certainly don't find it degrading. As long as they're not hurting anybody else, I'm not entitled to tell them what they should or shouldn't do, and neither are you.

>Remember when the old socialists compared workers to prostitutes and this was supposed to be a huge insult? Wew, if they were alive today they'd kill themselves.
So? I'm not a socialist so I don't really care what some old socialists thought. Even if I was a socialist, just because those people thought those things doesn't make them right.

>Fucking retarded neoliberals pushing for the commercialisation of sex
I'm not "pushing" for it. I'm not saying more people should be sex workers. I'm just saying that if they make that choice they shouldn't be shamed for it because it's their business and they're not hurting anybody else.

>Wait until your girlfriend has to blow some rich faggots for spare change and if you're against this all of society will mock you for it.
So I should prefer that my girlfriend die of hunger instead of blowing some rich faggot? I don't really get your point here. It's sad if anyone has to do things they don't want to do just so they have money to survive. But the problem here is poverty, not sex work.

Okay let's be fucking real here, I'm on the older end of the spectrum of /lit/ posters at 23, and in highschool I didn't read ANY of my assigned readings. Sparknotes was already a thing, I could get away with reading maybe a page or two to lift a direct quote when I was making a point in a paper. No fucking highschool students are laboriously pouring over tomes assigned by their English teachers. Not only do a million analyses exist on the internet for any book getting assigned in highschool, the books are literally shit like The Hunger Games now. I was assigned The Hunger Games in grade 10. All the young people who claim highschool stole their love of reading are just infantile complainers who couldn't get over the fact they had to read something they didn't choose themselves. And again, YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE TO READ these fucking books! I just didn't read the books I didn't want to read, I went to sparknotes and got 90%+ on everything I wrote. Expectations are so fucking low.

Imagine that
The answer is that most people stop caring about reading when they get caught up in the rat race of socialization and stop being content spending their free time in isolated activities with no social benefit. They didn't stop because they were too intelligent to read a 300 page best seller for their English class and that one experience killed their interest in literature forever

Actually I think her video is a really good indictment of millennial/zoomer culture in general and not just specific to women.

Basically she admits that anytime she tries to do something that requires too much attention or isolation she starts to feel sad so she immediately resorts to playing videogames or watching youtube. This is like all the millennials and zoomers who have lowest common denominator bullshit like The Office playing on their television at all times because "it's comfy to have on in the background." God forbid you have to actually be alone with your feelings for two fucking minutes or expend a little bit of emotional and mental energy in the pursuit of something genuine. The thing is people aren't forced to read books in school. They're given books, then given assignments and quizzes to prove that they can reference the book, bullshit questions like, "On page 58 what did the masked man say about CIA's coat when he walked in the room". Technically you'd have to have read the book to be able to answer that, but what ends up happening is people just scan for the portion of text that answers their question and that's it. I actually bothered to do the assigned reading, sometimes I'd actually finish a whole book in one night, but I'd still have to look forwards of weeks of, "Do you remember this insignificant detail on page 100 of this 150 page long book that for god knows what reason takes two months of daily classes to cover".

>"Do you remember this insignificant detail on page 100 of this 150 page long book that for god knows what reason takes two months of daily classes to cover".

Get real. Questions like this are almost never asked in an English classroom, and, if they are, it's asked by the teacher the class after an assigned reading in order to demonstrate a literary device.

They really ask questions like:
>Outline the plot of The Odyssey and explain how each part can be considered in the "Hero's Journey."
>"Analyze the symbolism in this passage from Heart of Darkness [the passage is given] and, using only the language in this passage, try to discern the author's attitude towards European imperialism in the 19th century"
>"Using what you have learned about poetic devices, analyze this poem [the poem is given] and how these devices contribute to the overall meaning"

English education almost never consists of rote memorization, unless it's a vocabulary test.

I agree with you but a lot of this comes down to the specific teachers and assignments. Assigned reading in school should be a good way to introduce younger people to deeper ideas in more classic literature but it often feels like a chore not because of the book itself but because of the teachers. In one class we had to read classic works and leave a sticky note about something important that we observed on EVERY SINGLE PAGE. It killed the narrative momentum and immersion of every single book we had to read because we got to the end of each page and had to stop and think of some bullshit to write down just to appease the teacher. It was horrible and prevented me from enjoying several books that I'm sure I would have liked otherwise.

Girls don't read because women are theoretical spirit-nullifying golems devised by ethereal freespace aliens to destroy humanity's potential for transcendence. Every sentient species in the Prime universe has a vitalist life-affirmation drive that points toward ascension as its entelechy, which means that, eventually, vital forces will surmount mere physicality and break through into higher realms, with unknown consequences for the eternal silence of those spheres, which are maintained by the steady, low-level thrumming of bounded and base intelligences. Creatures that feed and thrive on that silence want to maintain their habitus at all costs, so they send tendrils of noetical shit into our reality and subtly pollute the fourth aitia or telos of every species as soon as its inner light is visible from beyond. For humans, it is as natural to develop our Consciousness into Spirit as it is for other animals to follow their own instincts. The primary instinct of our umwelt is self-transcendence and self-perfection, so we fit into boundlessness as well as a dolphin fits into its own bounded quiddity of swimming and eating fish. The only way to stop this is to introduce detours and channels that disperse our potential. It's painful for the aliens to be in our reality, so they spend very long times devising the most economical investments of their ability to influence Prime space in order to achieve maximum results. They are more attuned to the pure Pythagorean substructural "morphe" than to graven "hyle," so their knowledge of how to follow variable "trees" of chaos is much greater than ours, who have the reverse tendency. In our case, they reached into the molecular structure of our genetic code, probably around the time we developed abstract thought, and rearranged the female genotype to make sure that any given woman's pure soul has an obstruction. They economically coopted existing structures and features, like fatty deposits, pleasure, and romantic love, and elegantly deformed them in just such a way as to cause a resonance cascade. On the individual level, instead of being born (as men) with pure souls, women are now born with a soul that has a big piece of meat stapled to it. Through an entropic transmission that is an insult to the inner purpose of all Prime life, women become Meat rather than Soul. They speak as Meat, live as Meat, think as Meat. Their animal instincts, subsumed into an enspirited Consciousness in the male human, become the locus of their transcendental apperception. On the social level, this creates an inescapable eddy which drags men into its centre of gravity. As animals, as Meat, women naturally tend toward communal instincts, and the atomised and rarefied individual men are dragged one by one into the orbit of Pussy. The spiritual system of humanity flattens out and deforms, its peaks and leaps become more and more uniform, it distends and denatures into waves and fluid dynamics rather than a sparking flame.
