I honestly don't understand how anyone can dismiss idealism without being intellectually dishonest
Why do so many people are so smug about being nihilists or materialists when they're so obviously biased?

Neo pragmatism answers the pic related.

Let me illustrate with another question, we are in a coronavirus crisis and people are finding themselves having to stay in home and face introspection and fear(if they are old or near old people), who are they turning to? Medics and psychologists? Or Kant and Hegel? Or hell even Camus.

Back when the internet was far more filled with atheists and more religion-vs-atheism, one of the images that struck me harder was one comparing legless children "under religion and under science" and you can imagine in which children "got their legs back" of course back then I already realize that did not made any sense since they are different fields but is not that it's true or not not is that people consider it to hold some degree of truth. In short, people do not seek the metaphysical since they finds no value in it, the way they see it unless philosophy starts to cure cancer or sending people to mars it's pointless, so they have turned to the closest thing: Taking materialism because it's a side effect of the scientific process and the technological progress, that at least promises something tangible and call people bugmen, plebs or wathever you like but the collective is in control of the human noosphere and if people collectively choose to don't be idealistic but rather pragmatic you see the death of ideology, the death of spiritualism and the rise of epistemology, logic and deontology and the substition of spiritual transcendence with technological transcendence; that's why we have a rise in transhumanist movements and similar ideas. either that or nihilism, but not nhilism in the sense of trying to create a void to build something on it but nihilism for nihilism, not a satisfactory answer but functional, quite universal and easy to understand, easy to support if you don't really think hard about it(in the sense at least transhumanists are at least trying something)

So the way I see it, is not that people are dishonest, is just that it's the only way they can hold any belief in this world without giving up something
