14848168 No.14848168 [Reply] [Original]

how do I find suffering in a sheltered lifestyle?
The times I have suffered forced me to evolve, i need some more, I want to build character.

goddamnit not like that. But you know, go somewhere cheap, somewhere you can live and work for a little while. Maybe Thailand because it's so different, there's a lot of people from my country living ilegally in Ireland.

Ergo you would have money, ergo you're saying two different things at once.
>s-stop being pedantic you know what I meant
I did, and it's still stupid. It's no sort of character building exercise to bum around. It's a less severely stupid version of the example I posted, and on the same continuum with it.

well, money for travel only, that's the idea. The reason I don't do it is because I don't even have that money right now.
>I did, and it's still stupid
Interesting, did you go by yourself? couldn't you find work there, or were you just not interested in it?

>>14848374
Surely I won't, some anons are giving good advice, like the go help other people guy.

Something like committing a crime is silly. I can't imagine the suffering of doing something terrible with the sole purpose of suffering afterwards will teach you anything, except not to do THAT again, stupid.

I'll trade you lives

>> No.14849537

Give all your money to me and start over, with nothing, as a homeless dude. From there, you build yourself up, learning skills and working hard, and that's how you build character and learn a crazy amount about the world.

I've already done it. Started by taking on a job shoveling horse shit at a farm in exchange for rent, and worked part time till I could afford a car, which I lived in. I learned a crazy amount about work and the poor in general, and now have the greatest possible disdain for homeless druggies. It wasn't impossible to get back on my feet. It just took some discomfort and enough work to teach me what the meaning of exhaustion actually was.

So just reply to me and I'll post more about myself so you can give me all your money and start over. I want you to understand that it would go to much better use coming to me right now than being in your hands. I've just shifted to part time from 60 hours per week, and live in my truck by choice. When I was working 50 hours per week, I wrote poetry and produced two chapbooks that I put on Amazon. One has a 4.8 star rating, the other has a 4.5 star rating. I need the money to help me stop working or at least to give me a cushion so that my family will stop worrying sick about me. I already work a total of 60 plus hours per week minimum between work and writing, and I would be able to write like a fucking factory if I somehow didn't have to work.

Your money, I'm sure you're convinced even without my post, isn't doing a whole lot of good right now. But if you give it to me, you'll be supporting an artistic renaissance. I write poetry that is both aesthetic and meaningful, and some people consider it deeply psychological. Do some good with yourself and give me everything so you can start from scratch and I can accomplish some good here.

Suffering does not always cause growth. A lot of the time it just makes people bitter and unpleasant.

>> No.14849578

I’ve thought about this a lot before OP. I feel similarly. I think for those of us who are so coddled and pampered (while deprived of anything actually worthwhile) in the modern world, it has to be a radical embrace of struggle. You have to come to hate comfort itself and turn away from it in utter disgust and turn towards hardship. You’ve got to give yourself no choice but to struggle. Actually doing it is the hard part though and I admit, I often fail this. I can give one tiny example that’s been talked about on internet circles: pornography. The best way to overcome pornography addiction is to become utterly disgusted with it and turn away from it completely towards anti-pornography. Throw out your phone. Throw out your computer. Put yourself in a situation where you’re never alone. It’s not an option. You have to have no choice.

>> No.14849588

>>14849578
Basically, OP. I think it needs to be brought on by an authority outside of yourself. You need to give yourself over to struggle and authority other than one you decide for yourself. You need to need to change, whether you want to or not.

anyway, you need to do some manual work, something in live with the servant style of life, you'll probably give it some legitimacy over you as you are very proud of having read Hegel and having read him like he was describing fictional characters which you seem to aspire to.
you won't find much suffering in your parent's house, that's for sure

people suffer for many reasons but it will be idiotic of you to suffer just to have suffered, which you seem to realize has been an idea that has dominated you all your life til a while ago.

answer is very simple: talk to people, wash your own clothers, make your own food, take care of yourself.
you are probably way down the retarded hole to realize but you are a fucking retard, but a lucky one, it won't take much for you to learn
