Quite wrong, OP.

Sure, if you're pretentious, Jewish and a hipster.

I want to read it and was about to order it, but then I read some review where the person was saying a lot of negative things about a certain translation. I still want to read it because I've seen the film adaptation from 1950 and I loved it.

Which translation did you read, OP?

Not quite sure, to be honest. I rarely pay attention to who did the translation.

More like Irano de Assburgeriraq

"I rarely pay attention to who did the translation." = I don't know anything about literature and, frankly, don't know why in the bloody blazes I'm here.

>> No.1481140

Best ever? Nah. Damn good? Yeah.

>> No.1481142

I liked Cyrano de Bergerac, actually. Best play ever, well...You know, I like others. Still, Cyrano is a fun read, and his character breathed more than most others I've read about.

>> No.1481151

>>1481142

I love the play, but I'd say that's one of the flaws with it. Cyrano feels so much more alive than any of the other characters. They just feel like they're there for Cyrano. Especially Roxanne, the object of Cyrano's love, seems so shallow next to Cyrano.

agreed, but Rostand was writing for an I hate women time period at the end of the victorian and gave her what he could, plus the male role was built for one of the most dominant male actors of his time, and the original female role was meant to be more flourish acting than vocal acting. So it doesn't translate to literature. The reason it's so great for me is it comes about during a period of naturalism on stage and really is a source of inspiration for sci-fi and fantasy authors of the time period, it's also the basis for the change in silent films towards a more swashbuckling character. It's one of the few plays I know that older theater people hate despite it being a critical success when it was created.

Right. THAT'S Juno's problem.

Jesus.

>> No.1481310

>>1481258
Well yeah All the characters in Juno exist purely to take her barbs and further the plot

Especially Michael Ceras character, who is made to seem superficial and dull compared to Juno

What was your problem with it bro?

>> No.1481322

>>1481310
Juno was pure kitsch.

The characters, right down to her hamburger phone, engage in nothing bit kitsch and it's supposed to somehow enlighten anyone watching the banal film.

Give a serious problem (pregnancy) a minefield full of pop-culture trip switches just waiting to go off, and there you have Juno. A pregnant woman with kitsch flowering up into her face at every step. But it's worse than that. She likes it.

>Juno was pure shit
Yes. Yes it was. I got fed up at 10 minutes in. I watch all kinds of movies, so I persevered to 30 minutes in, and asked /tv/ if it redeemed itself in any way. They said it didn't, so fuck it, don't ever want to watch that crap ever again.
