Looking back over one's life on the deathbed is a meme. You'll be thinking about your kids, and most likely looking forward to death, as your parents are dead, many of your friends if you had them, and possibly your spouse are already dead. The prospect of reunion with them if you believe in an afterlife is far more compelling than mulling over whether you spent your 20s partying or reading books.

I'm sure this is true for many here, but when I think about the most important things in my life, the things resting in the depths of my heart, there are two categories: people I've loved (friends and girlfriends and family) and books I've loved. I feel about Tropic of Cancer, Lolita, Shakespeare, Yeats, Dickinson, V., Revolutionary Road, and so on the same as I feel when I think about my best friends.

If you don't believe in an afterlife, when you die, you disappear forever and all your memories of doing anything disappears as well, so it doesn't matter how you spend your time alive. If you do believe in an afterlife (and aren't a retarded Christcuck or pseudo-Christcuck that believe you get sent to two arbitrary, opposing places based on your actions in some arbitrary moral codes that omniscient God placed upon us while knowing how you were going to turn out and where you were going to go anyway, because of said omniscience) then you have literally all the time in existence to do what you want, and you will probably do everything at least an infinite amount of times until we recede back into the Monad, or something like that.
