if anything, watching the trilogy makes you appreciate the books more.
i do love the films, but on every re-watch i notice something else i don't like about them, whereas the opposite is true for the books.

I think I liked the movies as a kid, read the full tetralogy twice in the last two years, tried to watch the movies again last month and they're absolute garbage. Your mileage may vary.
