Is the purpose of art to transport the perceiver to a state of higher consciousness from where they can contemplate about morality, ethics, spirituality, sensuality etc.?

>> No.14763699

>>14763691
I would say that is a consequence of good art. The purpose of art itself is for the artist to share their perception of something with others. Like a painter painting something mundane, but the way he sees it makes it interesting. If this is done well it can allow others to see something from a viewpoint other than their own, and maybe it will have an effect on how they perceive their own ideas, ethics morality etc by experiencing good art.

All true art is the embodiment of a provident deity. Apollo is encapsulated in Greek sculpture and you can hear God behind every note of Mozart. Art without religion is impossible.

The purpose of art is whatever you make it. It's why someone will feel nothing viewing a piece, while others will froth at the mouth and speak of its excellence.

The very opposite. The purpose of art is to occupy you for awhile so you don't have to fill the void by contemplating philosophy.

This is the laziest, most brainlet take possible.
If someone feels that art is inconsequential to them then they by definition are irrelevant to the discussion.

Or even just alternate, lateral. A left and right lens rather than some higher one. Not to be centrist, but to make the point that views art conveys aren't always/don't need to be views you're expected to take all the time.

Art is transformation. The purpose of an art should be to achieve greatness by transforming the information and experience you collect into something higher, worth admiring. Achieving greatness can elevate your soul and this can be done through art.

No, read some Camus. Seeking transcendence through art is a futile effort. Aestheticism is the only value worth pursuing. This is why music (without lyrics) is superior to literature.

from the Metaphysics of Fine Arts
https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/The_Metaphysics_of_Fine_Art
>If the reader wishes for a direct example of the advantage which intuitive knowledge—the primary and fundamental kind—has over abstract thought, as showing that Art reveals to us more than we can gain from all the sciences, let him look at a beautiful human face, full of expressive emotion; and that too whether in nature itself or as presented to us by the mediation of Art. How much deeper is the insight gained into the essential character of man, nay, into nature in general, by this sight than by all the words and abstract expressions which may be used to describe it. When a beautiful face beams with laughter, it is as though a fine landscape were suddenly illuminated by a ray of light darting from the clouds. Therefore ridete, puellæ, ridete!

Lacrimosa isn't even good you dumb normalfag. Mozart wasn't even very good, he's a corporate product of a zeitgeist.

Guenon has argued all music should be purely chanting. Music with power comes from working within an initiatory/ritualistic context. Listening to music for its own sake, is closer to a bowel movement than a transcendental act. The hylics dancing to club pop understand this fact of music having power beyond itself better than you do listening to culture industry propaganda alone.
