It is not that 'God is dead'. It is that our capacity to know Him has been obliterated by the secularising forces of modernity. It is not that we have forgotten God because we have come to greater knowledge. Rather, we have forgotten him precisely because we have regressed in understanding. Sure, we have advanced in technical knowledge. But our capacity for 'wisdom', for a coherent and comprehensive sense of the Whole, is lost. Formerly our epistemologies were grounded in place which served as a filter, retaining only what was pertinent to life and which cohered and could therefore serve as the basis of a functioning society. Now there is no basis. Now we are bombarded with all too much points and counterpoints for the human mind to handle. We have been made dumb by the abundance of knowledge. The scale of the task of 'thinking for oneself' is too large. We can't think. We can't know anything. God disappears from view, and we fall on our knees before the managerial class, because only numbers know, not people. God is alive, we've only made ourselves blind.
