It's like trying to hex your uncle who keeps up with the news through what televangelists say and wears his cell phone on his belt, or the lady at the end of the street who thinks she knows something about something because she read "The Secret." A bit pathetic for a target when there are bigger, more influential fish like John Bolton or Kellyanne Conway they could have cast their voodoo spells on.

The childish bully tactics of the new left would harry and harass his every reasoned assertion as if it were venomous hate speech.
Zizek then appeared on the horizon, like an avenging samurai master trained in the deadly art of Iaido, ready to dispatch Peterson at a critical moment in his career with a swift flick of the wrist, exposing that Peterson has a paltry understanding of political theory and a sparknotes tier understanding of the communist manifesto (which is not even the definitive intellectual statement of the communist position but a pamphlet meant to appeal to semi-literate factory workers.)

It's not like Chemistry, or Biology, or Physics, since it has no fundamentals, it has no universals. Psychological research is mostly shit but you cannot deny that CBT/DBT, and other types of therapy are effective for many people. They have helped better many people suffering from disorders like mdd, bpd, etc. In order to be a clinical psychologist you can't be an autist. You have to be able to connect with other people. No. Human behaviour is a vastly complex mechanism, it is TOO complex for man to fathom and explain, there are too many variables and too many outcomes that there is no way we could ever have a valid understanding of what's going on. It will always be one conjecture after another, with no proof in between. Basically it's for people who are shooting so ridiculously high that they are intending to miss.

Anyhow, I'm more of a physics/mathematics guy myself, biology I disliked for similar reasons, there are not that many universals, but there are some universals.

>>14734666
I don't see what cock/dick and ball torture has to do with it, but sure, if it helps "many" people then it helps them. Do I think there's really any science or research behind it? Not really, it's just kind of prodding around and getting people to acknowledge their own thought patterns and improve their mental stability by doing what you should do anyway. Attending therapy is no better for the brain than going to the gym is for the body. What I mean is that therapy, like the gym, has materials you may not have otherwise had access to, but unless you're going to really push yourself, you're not getting better. Similarly, you don't need to go to the gym to be relatively healthy. If you wish to obsess over your body and excessively work your body, then be my guest, but after you take into account signup fees and weekly/monthly rates, you're better off just getting a barbell/dumbell set and going for runs.

The general consensus is that for treating multiple disorders something like CBT in conjunction with medication is more effective than either or alone.

I find Medicine to have an empathy problem though. I talked to a friend of mine who studies medicine, and I think the dehumanisation of people in their profession and the ""facts don't care about your feelings" attitude is causing this. Where I'm from medicine students have a class in empathy or "consulting with patients" because so many doctors have been robots saying "you will die of cancer in 2 weeks, bye" and just not giving a shit.

Compare him to Zizek. Zizek's memes are about his mannerisms and his style of speaking (accent, dirty jokes, movie comparisons, etc). The university intellectuals also play an important role in carrying out the System's trick. Though they like to fancy themselves independent thinkers, the intellectuals are (allowing for individual exceptions) the most oversocialized, the most conformist, the tamest and most domesticated, the most pampered, dependent, and spineless group in America today. As a result, their impulse to rebel is particularly strong. But, because they are incapable of independent thought, real rebellion is impossible for them. Consequently they are suckers for the System's trick, which allows them to irritate people and enjoy the illusion of rebelling without ever having to challenge the System's basic values.

Because they are the teachers of young people, the university intellectuals are in a position to help the System play its trick on the young, which they do by steering young people's rebellious impulses toward the standard, stereotyped targets: racism, colonialism, women's issues, etc. Young people who are not college students learn through the media, or through personal contact, of the "social justice" issues for which students rebel, and they imitate the students. Thus a youth culture develops in which there is a stereotyped mode of rebellion that spreads through imitation of peers—just as hairstyles, clothing styles, and other fads spread through imitation.

Yeah, I find it difficult to empathise with people. It's a problem because it makes it hard to like people. I hold considerable contempt for a lot of human behaviour, and yet at the same time I know that everything we do is out of our control, we do it because we must. I can be sympathetic, but yes, for the most part I can very easily not care for most people. I was pretty drone like until I turned about 20, I've improved since. I mostly like maths because everything is there, there's no uncertainty like there is with physics, you can muck around in an artificial universe and you don't need to worry too much about the applications or implications of your findings.

Dunno why that other anon replied on my behalf. I did a course in QM/linear algebra that was really abstract, it was probably the hardest and most fun class I've ever done. The same thing that leads every non-pessimist, non-antinatalist, self-improved, optimistic person to their downfall.
Believing that you have any kind of control over your quality of life, that willpower can beat anything, and that nature/life/god/whatever you wanna call it/etc can't wipe out everything you have and leave you in complete helpless misery begging to die.

Daddy Jordan over there thought he knew what suffering was, but eventually got punched a couple times I guess. I guess also cleaning your room can't prevent your wife from getting cancer. I guess cleaning your room also doesn't prevent your brain from getting addicted to addictive chemicals. Not even if you only eat meat. I guess the people he looked down on just had a harder life than he thought, and now even doing the responsible thing and going to the doctor is not enough, because medical help in the US doesn't really help that much in some cases.

But anyway, please just go ahead and call me weak and doubt me. Tell me I'm just not stoic enough, not religious enough, not hard working enough. Maybe you're right, or maybe the obvious blaring truth has just not presented itself to you yet.

Humans are quick to put animals out of their misery, like a deer they accidentally hit with a car, or a dog with a terminal disease. But when it comes to other humans they become irrational, delusional, and tell all sorts of nonsense forcing the person to "enjoy" their suffering.

The vast majority of refugees are from Syria and Libya.

Also, it makes more sense to try to provide humanitarian aid in-country than out-of-country in the long run. Population displacement harms the country-of-origin and as a result causes the humanitarian situation in the country to deteriorate further. This is why, for example, East Germany didn't allow many of its citizens to leave the country. For countries with an ongoing civil war, safe zones and allowing in refugees is a good thing, but for situations where imminent violence is not a threat, humanitarian aid in country to build an infrastructure in which the people living there are economically secure is both more practical and more humanitarian than the alternative, because then people do not have to abandon extended or immediate family to undertake the journey, and they don't have to abandon their past life.

the reason physics and mathematics are more rigorous is because they often utilize much more abstract concepts and even if the toolset WAS smaller as you are implying, you have to use those tools in much more complicated ways. The image you posted is actually super indicative of why biology is easier. A process having an inordinate number of steps doesn't make it complicated, it just makes it long. In the Zizek debate he seemed to honestly think reading the Communist Manifesto was enough to debate about Marx, and he tried to play it up as "really" reading it. When he spoke with Camille Paglia, who was friendly to him, he made it clear he hadn't even read the 'post-modern neo marxists' he criticizes, calling one of them 'unreadable'. Not to mention the fact that she talked circles around him, while he sat their looking like he barely understood half of it.

This has truth.

Truth is not voted on democratically. And It might not even exist outside of mind/thought.

Now I am a Christian - classical theist, so for me the ground of all is Being, Bliss, Consciousness - God, the grand truth and why I see revelation is relevant.

But again truth as it stands - is not determined democratically or by a big mob suddenly cheering something.

It comes established through scientific method, concrete acts, revelation.

Usually consensus of the learned - but intellectually honest - is a good start, if you want to play safe.

You may feel that way because you chose to read, reply and focus on losers - or actually you might project that on them without it even being the case.

There are countless successful people on all boards, good looking, rich, highly educated - active in threads. Many of them write stupid shit, cringe and so on, they are just people like me and you...

Given the format, I suggest you just don't care about those things, focus on the points being made, read the text and move on - try to not pass value judgements , I imagine it's a very taxing way of being emotionally.

Maybe not, but physics has given us a solid lot to go with. Relativity, particle theory, electromagnetism, QM, with these developments we have mobile phones, the internet, MRI machines, x-rays, computers, we understand so many secrets of the world that, a couple of centuries ago, were mere speculation. We are aware of from a young age the existence of things like protons, electrons, hydrogen, the elements, metals, magnets, electricity, etc... Isn't that in itself something to marvel at? We may never achieve the unachievable, but in striving to do so we have found so much, and yes, science always changes, but there will always be the fundamentals.

Psychology is fluid, there are not, and cannot, be such fundamentals, since all brains are different. The atomic makeup of matter never wavers. The speed of light is constant. Freud was debunked, but he was as right as any other crack head who thinks psychology has more to offer than neuroscience. We have medicine that cures depression but it also cures you of life, we have therapy that costs families thousands, despite the fact that there is rarely ever a point when you will no longer need therapy. These leeches! These vampires! They suck you dry, they prey on the vulnerable and suck and suck, they do not cure, even if they could, they would not, it is far too lucrative. I enjoy both Peterson and Zizek, but I thought that debate and the reactions to it were overdone. It was basically two platitude boomers unable to understand the times meeting for a debate without knowing anything about each other. Peterson gave a generic ass speech with no relevance. Zizek tried a gay cheap shot question (where are ze neo marxists) which was trash because anyone who has been more than five minutes in academia knows that the most common person is one influenced simultaneously by post modernists and marxists, asking him to name a few famous people who identify that way was stupid

Just an entertaining thing that revealed pretty aptly the limitations of both speakers. Peterson cannot see that liberalism is in its death throes, Zizek can but he's too stupid to accept the implications and thinks we can just shrug our shoulders and be comfy demsoc and everything will be fine. That's why his take on Bernie is so hilariously bad, "Trump actually fuels zee far left" nothing could be further form the truth. If anything it gave political ammunition to the libs when they most needed (beat trump now, worry about actual leftism later). The second shit gets interesting these boomer faggots are useless.
