Improving yourself without a goal in mind is just hedonism. You improve to derive dopamine from the sense of improvement, you're no different from chronic masturbators, drug addicts and other happy feels chasers. Moreover, vain self-improvement probably stalls you from finding something truly important to you in life, as you clutter your mind daily with meaningless exercise and useless skills, giving it no time to feel the mother of all creative endeavours - boredom. Don't even get me started on the corrosive, prideful effect of constant self-backpatting on your character.
Improving is good, obviously, but apply it carefully and with intelligence. Learning a language to read some author, or increase your employability? Great. Learning a language because you just feel like it? Supergay.

Recovering improver here. I did a non-stop improvement kick for 2 years as a means to recover myself after a 3 year bout of intermittent mania and psychosis. I never would have stopped if my life circumstances hadn't changed. The improvement life was a positive, but the "purpose" part was missing. Improvement for improvement's sake is not a purpose. I've been in a period of total degeneration for 6 months now and it has done wonders for actually wrestling with and answering the question of purpose. When the weather improves I'm going to start on the improvement lifestyle again only this time improving won't be the core of my drive. My improving doesn't need a destination because I've made peace with the insecurities that drove me to improve in the first place. I am no longer dependent on improving for defining my worth.

I don't have a "good" answer here. For me it was a period of regression that worked. Perhaps there is a positive way to reach that state too. I had to reduce myself to nothing but my insecure traits and get comfortable with them. Integrate, accept, and acknowledge them. Now I feel like I can grow beyond them, but I am also content being the least of myself I can tolerate. By that I mean you don't perversely pursue degeneration for degeneration's sake. im not that guy you were replying to, i just thought it was weird that you needed him to define what pursuing happiness means
its means doing things that make you happy, which is not the same as doing whatever you want to do, because thats hedonism, doing something impulsive and short-term for a quick release of dopamine or whatever. pursuing happiness means leading a life that makes you happy, even if youre not happy at every given instance of that life. when you clean your room or wash your penis or w/e, its not because you enjoy doing those things, its because thats what you need to do to lead a happy life. if you have to read a book in order to know to wash your penis, then washing your penis may not be something that you personally need (like you said, i dont know you)
if you read a self-help book and then enjoy the actual process of improoving, youre doing it wrong. youre not supposed to enjoy the improovment process, what youve done is what that other anon (the guy you were replying to) described, its masturbatory, youre backpatting your self over how virtuous you are for washing your penis when youre not suppose to be enjoying it, you supposed to be doing it because for a lot of people thats what needs to be done in order to lead a happy life, its not sustainable to get high on your own farts while trying to improov, because eventually the high will wear off and youll just fall back on your ass
if you actually, genuinely enjoy doing an activity that could be classified as "improovment" (exercising, learning a language, you dont drink or smoke, etc.) then thats great, but those arent the kind of people that usually try to "improov"

That sounds like "improoving" (these -oomer memes fukken suck) to me. Or at least the exercise and language-learning do. I have serious doubts that anyone exercises, learns a skill, or decides to kick a bad habit just because they feel like they "should" in order to live some abstract good life or to meet a loosely defined level of achievement. People enjoy learning things, and working towards goals. Why waste mental energy trying to set yourself apart from people who are doing the same thing you are for reasons which are probably similar? It's just another surrogate activity for them, it's a way to keep them distracted from the crushing responsibility of having autonomy over their time. Note that every single improvement endeavor is something where they are being told what to do by someone else. Learning another language? This means having someone tutor you. Learning a martial art? same thing. Working another job on the weekend? Bossman telling you how you spend your time. Even reading (usually audio books) amounts to uncritically soaking up what Rogan/Peterson/dan carlin/solzhenitsyn/whatever other trendy midwit meme is saying like a sponge.

These people all have boomer worldviews despite being zoomers. The have unwavering faith in neo-liberal propaganda. They are mildly upset over trannies, just as they were mildly upset over homosexuals in highschool whom they now embrace wholly and completely.

I think that you misunderstand. I want to inspire others to seek improvement and also explain that you should seek improvement because it's something that everyone know deep inside that it's a meaningful thing to do, it's not about "delay of pleasure". >delayed gratification is a form of hedonistic indulgence

I can see how you might think that, if your cognitive process has been conducted through saturated-fat-stymied neurons since prepubescence. This is the kind of deluded Christcuckeryesque thinking of the coomer who says "I could quit masturbating if I wanted to, so I don't have to. " Well, my auto-theist. Drunk on a cocktail of social media technology and hyper capitalism, the
fussiness of women and expectations of social performance are at an all time high.

Meanwhile in a frenzy of hermitesque gaming fantasy escapism, actual male social performance is at an all time low.

The net result is an insurmountable chasm between expectation and performance which is resulting in the complete alienation at a societal level of the non-elite male sexual agent.

The response from these males has been a something akin to the Marcusian "Great Refusal", where instead of rising to meet these unrealistic social expectations, the common male agent is utterly refusing them as false and not aligned with their personal desires whatsoever.

In a clash between the manufacturing of a hypersexualized male product meant to capture that adoration and material consumption of the female agent, and the actual reality males find themselves living in, there seems to be a rebellion developing in what exactly it means to be a man in this new age of internet living; one where you can either consume self improvement products and identities at a dizzying pace, only to probably miss the ever moving target of market driven female expectations, or resign yourself completely to a sexless and recognitionless existence as a cyber exile separated from any access to his sexuality whatsoever outside of his own consumption of pornographic products and toys.

This, however, will never fulfill the needs of either party, for recognition from a legitimate other. Alienation will intensify for both types of sexual agent, as their one way consumption of sexual products has capitalist social media and pornographic companies absorbing their much coveted recognition and attention, rather than sharing it with one another

One of the things that happened to humans over the course of evolution is our almost complete loss of DNA-ensured instincts. This was necessary to allow the further development of the brain, achieve higher, abstract thinking, and most important, the ability to learn. Humans are very much born as blank slates, any kind of alpha-beta-genetic-destiny rhetoric is pure broscience.

You need to read the chapters 'Despisers of the Body' and 'Preachers of Death' from Thus Spoke Zarathustra.

Literally EVERYTHING you do in life, even the most grueling challenge, is for the benefit of some form of future dopamine/serotonin etc.
What's the alternative? Doing literally nothing, inflicting pain on yourself, killing yourself? Because 'at least I'm not a slave to dopamine and serotonin'??

You improve to derive dopamine from the sense of improvement, you're no different from chronic masturbators, drug addicts and other happy feels chasers. Moreover, vain self-improvement probably stalls you from finding something truly important to you in life, as you clutter your mind daily with meaningless exercise and useless skills, giving it no time to feel the mother of all creative endeavours - boredom. Improving is good, but improving mindlessly is waste of time. The case is - you should think for yourself what do you need to do and what work for you. A lot of people instead of improving themselves and trying to reach certain goals are just mindless drones listening to their guru or cult that preach to them about new must do practice to blindly follow.
If you are blue-collar worker, what use will you have from hitting the gym after 8 hours of work.
Listening foulishly about what you need to and how to live from a man that lives in totally different country and continent.
Even things like no-fap should be thought on personal level - if you masturbate to much and it bothers you then practice no-fap.

Strength training is a must because it not only increases physicality but also promotes wellness, fitness, and nutrition. More than half of strength gains is related to nutrition after all. Healthy diet creates a healthy mind, etc. Plus strength is always a necessity and will always be needed, not just in terms of good looks but also in terms of everyday use and practicality. I agree that most people don't have realistic goals, but part of setting realistic goals means understanding implications of your action.

>> No.14752159

I agree with pursue of health and in this case by physical training.
>"Strength training is a must because it not only increases physicality but also promotes wellness, fitness, and nutrition.[...]Healthy diet creates a healthy mind..."
I totally agree with this and would also add to this that it increases self-confidence and theaches us self-determination.
Physical training is nearly always useful thing to practice.
But as i said, everything we do, we should take into consideration if it's useful for us.
If we work as blue-collar worker carrying heave bags and digging holes with shovel for 8-12 hours a day then going to a gym will propably just do us harm.
But it doesn't mean person like that couldn't plan healthy diet for himself and try to live healthy life. Person like that, instead of hitting the gym could use earned money to go on courses or try to educate himself so he can try to change workplace where he could live the life that allows him to whatever he wish - like hitting the gym after work.
So, my point is, there are a lot of practices that help us in a lot of cases (like physical training), but we should always think are these things helpfull or harmfull in reaching our goals.
