In Search of Lost Time is the supreme achievement of the human mind. You should absolutely read it. If you know French well, then of course read it in French, but if you only know English then read it in English and pick the Moncrieff translation. The Lydia Davis translation I hear is wonderful for Swann's Way as well, but Moncrieff's translation is regarded as one of the greatest works by a translator in all of literature, capturing the true beauty of Proust's prose.

It is as much philosophy as it is fiction, and the prose take one's breath away the way poetry should.

Read all of it, several times, as much as possible. Proust is the pinnacle of literature, which is the pinnacle of art, which is the pinnacle of human expression. There are very few other things worth doing than reading Proust.
