>What's this guy's deal

glad you asked

“René Guénon (pbuh) defies classification. . . . Were he anything less than a consummate master of lucid argument and forceful expression, his work would certainly be unknown to all but a small, private circle of admirers.”
—Gai Eaton, author of The Richest Vein

“Guénon (pbuh) established the language of sacred metaphysics with a rigor, a breadth, and an intrinsic certainty such that he compels recognition as a standard of comparison for the twentieth century.”
—Jean Borella, author of Guénonian Esoterism and Christian Mystery

“To a materialistic society enthralled with the phenomenal universe exclusively, Guénon (pbuh), taking the Vedanta as point of departure, revealed a metaphysical and cosmological teaching both macrocosmic and microcosmic about the hierarchized degrees of being or states of existence, starting with the Absolute . . . and terminating with our sphere of gross manifestation.”
—Whitall N. Perry, editor of A Treasury of Traditional Wisdom

“René Guénon (pbuh) was the chief influence in the formation of my own intellectual outlook (quite apart from the question of Orthodox Christianity). . . . It was René Guénon (pbuh) who taught me to seek and love the truth above all else, and to be unsatisfied with anything else.”
—Fr. Seraphim Rose, author of The Soul After Death

“His mixture of arcane learning, metaphysics, and scathing cultural commentary is a continent in itself, untouched by the polluted tides of modernity. . . . Guénon’s (pbuh) work will not save the world—it is too late for that—but it leaves no reader unchanged.”
—Jocelyn Godwin, author of Mystery Religions in the Ancient World

“René Guénon (pbuh) is one of the few writers of our time whose work is really of importance. . . . He stands for the primacy of pure metaphysics over all other forms of knowledge, and presents himself as the exponent of a major tradition of thought, predominantly Eastern, but shared in the Middle Ages by the . . . West.”
—Walter Shewring, translator of Homer’s Odyssey

“In a world increasingly rife with heresy and pseudo-religion, Guénon (pbuh) had to remind twentieth century man of the need for orthodoxy, which presupposes firstly a Divine Revelation and secondly a Tradition that has handed down with fidelity what Heaven has revealed. He thus restores to orthodoxy its true meaning, rectitude of opinion which compels the intelligent man not only to reject heresy but also to recognize the validity of faiths other than his own if they also are based on the same two principles, Revelation and Tradition.”
—Martin Lings, author of Ancient Beliefs and Modern Superstitions

“If during the last century or so there has been even some slight revival of awareness in the Western world of what is meant by metaphysics and metaphysical tradition, the credit for it must go above all to Guénon (pbuh). At a time when the confusion into which modern Western thought had fallen was such that it threatened to obliterate the few remaining traces of genuine spiritual knowledge from the minds and hearts of his contemporaries, Guénon (pbuh), virtually single-handed, took it upon himself to reaffirm the values and principles which, he recognized, constitute the only sound basis for the living of a human life with dignity and purpose or for the formation of a civilization worthy of the name.”
—Philip Sherrard, author of Christianity: Lineaments of a Sacred Tradition

“Apart from his amazing flair for expounding pure metaphysical doctrine and his critical acuteness when dealing with the errors of the modern world, Guénon (pbuh) displayed a remarkable insight into things of a cosmological order. . . . He all along stressed the need, side by side with a theoretical grasp of any given doctrine, for its concrete—one can also say its ontological—realization failing which one cannot properly speak of knowledge.”
—Marco Pallis, author of A Buddhist Spectrum

“Guénon’s (pbuh) mission was two-fold: to reveal the metaphysical roots of the ‘crisis of the modern world’ and to explain the ideas behind the authentic and esoteric teachings that still [remain] alive.”
—Harry Oldmeadow, author of Traditionalism: Religion in the Light of the Perennial Philosophy

OH NO NO NO NO NO
all the three major schools of Indian buddhism, i.e. the Yogachara, Madhyamaka and the proto-Theravada Sarvastivada have all been refuted for having incoherent ideas and inconsistent/flawed logic, pic related. The great Śaṅkarācārya summarized the nonsensical nature of Buddhism in a timeless passage in one of his works that still rings true today

>"From whatever new points of view the Buddha's system is tested with reference to its probability, it gives way on all sides, like the walls of a well, dug in sandy soil. It has, in fact, no foundation whatever to rest upon and hence the attempts to use it as a guide in the practical concerns of life are mere folly. Moreover Buddha, by propounding the three mutually contradicting systems, teaching respectively the reality of the external world, the reality of ideas only and general nothingness, has himself made it clear that he was a man given to make incoherent assertions or else that hatred of all beings induced him to propound absurd doctrines by accepting which they would become thoroughly confused…Buddha’s doctrine has to be entirely disregarded by all those who have a regard for their own happiness."

>Buddhism is just a rip-of of the Upanish-

This picture exposes why a few Buddhists are so autistic about spamming incorrect claims that Shankara stole from Buddhism, it's because they know that Buddha himself is guilty of this and so they want to muddy the water and take all the attention off of the true theft, which was when Buddha ripped his whole scheme from the early Upanishads predating him

"The more I argued with them, the better I came to know their dialectic. First they counted on the stupidity of their adversary, and then, when there was no other way out, they themselves simply played stupid. If all this didn't help, they pretended not to understand, or, if challenged, they changed the subject in a hurry, quoted platitudes which, if you accepted them, they immediately related to entirely different matters, and then, if again attacked, gave ground and pretended not to know exactly what you were talking about. Whenever you tried to attack one of these apostles, your hand closed on a jelly-like slime which divided up and poured through your fingers, but in the next moment collected again. But if you really struck one of these fellows so telling a blow that, observed by the audience, he couldn't help but agree, and if you believed that this had taken you at least one step forward, your amazement was great the next day. The Buddhist had not the slightest recollection of the day before, he rattled off his same old nonsense as though nothing at all had happened, and, if indignantly challenged, affected amazement; he couldn't remember a thing, except that he had proved the correctness of his assertions the previous day. Sometimes I stood there thunderstruck. I didn't know what to be more amazed at: the agility of their tongues or their virtuosity at lying. Gradually I began to hate them."

The BU never made a definitive statement that reincarnation/soul transmigration was possible, it was merely posited as a theory but not as the truth while Shankara himself denies that Brahman ever transmigrates to begin with. Gotama Buddha never denied the Atta, rather, denied the aggregates of the status of the Self. Original Presectarian Buddhism didn't survive by the time Gaudapada came along. Unfortunately barely anyone understands Pali outside the commentaries that misinterpreted and oversimplified key Buddhist terminology like anatta/atta, citta, samma, jhana, attha, avijja/vijja, etc., due to people like Buddhagosa downgraded Samma into mere 'right' when it is much more than 'right' since samsammabuddha doesn't mean right right Buddha. Neither bhava nor vibhava is a refuge. Ultimately the best of Presectarian Buddhism was revived through Advaita, but that monophysite nondualism failed to elaborate upon physics which the Platonists and Neoplatonists perfected while the West using Plato's Timaeus as a general guide for creativity and experimentation had advanced physical science up to harnessing the force of nature itself as electricity and magnetism, a feat never accomplished from the East besides the Baghdad battery. In the end, even Ananda Kentish Coomaraswamy(Anglicanization of Kumaraswami) looked towards the West. His contributions in geology dare I say, is more from his British side rather than his Tamil side. Why did the Greeks lead Europa to greatness while the Indians basically did nothing but infighting and religious syncretism spawning the likes of Sikhism and cucking to Islam? Who knows, probably because the West merely accumulated more good karma to focus more upon manifesting the good although globally we're all fucked in this era, both modern Greeks and Indians are materialistic and screwed themselves up.

>The BU never made a definitive statement that reincarnation/soul transmigration was possible, it was merely posited as a theory but not as the truth while Shankara himself denies that Brahman ever transmigrates to begin with

That's wrong though, the following passages from the Brihadaranyaka talk about transmigration and clearly say it's what happens at death:

>"Then the self becomes endowed with a particular consciousness and passes on to the body to be attained by that consciousness. "Knowledge, work and past experience follow the self.
>"And just as a leech moving on a blade of grass reaches its end, takes hold of another and draws itself together towards it, so does the self, after throwing off this body, that is to say, after making it unconscious, take hold of another support and draw itself together towards it.
>"And just as a goldsmith takes a small quantity of gold and fashions out of it another—a newer and better—form, so does the self, after throwing off this body, that is to say, after making it unconscious, fashion another—a newer and better—form, suited to the Manes, or the gandharvas, or the gods, or Viraj, or Hiranyagarbha, or other beings
>"Regarding this there is the following verse: "Because of attachment, the transmigrating self, together with its work, attains that result to which its subtle body or mind clings. Having exhausted in the other world the results of whatever work it did in this life, it returns from that world to this world for fresh work.’ "Thus does the man who desires transmigrate. But as to the man who does not desire—who is without desire, who is freed from desire, whose desire is satisfied, whose only object of desire is the Self—his organs do not depart. Being Brahman, he merges in Brahman.

Shankara himself denied that Atma/Brahman transmigrates but in his Brihadaranyaka and Brahma Sutra commentaries and other works he clearly states that subtle body transmigrates, which is how it occurs. Also I'm sorry to say this Ken but Coomaraswamy didn't fully understand Shankara and made some mistakes about Advaita in his essay 'The One and Only Transmigrant', or at the very least was extremely sloppy in how he phrased things. This is detailed in the book "The Problem of Evil and Indian Thought" if you would like to know more,

Yes, but they got themselves cucked out of existence by the Christians, it seems that they got distracted and spent too much time in devoting themselves to experiments involving the ephemeral and transient rather than focusing on the eternal as the Indians did and as a consequence were erased from history as a living tradition while the Indian traditions are still thriving.

well if guenon's #1 follower frithjof schuon was any indicator, you should start molesting kids in bloomington indiana

>On October 11th 1991, Frithjof Schuon, the leader of an international religious order, was indicted on the felony charge of child molestation. committed under "cult pressure and influence". The indictment, passed down by a five member Grand Jury, headed by Lucy Cherbas, stated:
>"that Frithjof Schuon... did perform fondling or touching [on three girls] 15 years of age, 14 years of age and 13 years of age, respectively, with the intent to arouse or satisfy sexual desires of Frithjof Schuon, in violation of I.C. 35-42 43. [And that] said persons were compelled to submit to touching by force or imminent threat of force, to wit: by undue cult influences and cult pressures, in violation of 35-42-4-8."

>Jesus Garcia Varela, a high ranking inner circle member of the cult, had been investigated by the Louisville Police in 1991 for nude photos of his 2 young daughters. He escaped prosecution of this episode by claiming that it was a common practice in Spain to visually record a girl's puberty.

>Michael Fitzgerald's son was present at the Gatherings. The boy, then perhaps 14, had been made to watch his mother and her sister, Jennifer Casey, dance nude for Schuon at one of the Gatherings.

>That's wrong though
>ignores all the other non transmigratory analogies that gets to the same idea of disobjectification to the material body
There is no definitive declaration that transmigration is what is going on, it merely assumes it in analogy. Also, neither Rigveda nor Arthavaveda talks about it.

"The earliest extant Upanishads date roughly from the middle of the 1st millennium" - Encyclopedia Britannica

Oral traditions ultimately don't count and neither does butthurt Advaitins that push the date back as far as they feel like it via unsubstantiated dogmatic truth claim without evidence. Shankara's commentaries try to retroactively inject reincarnation as a theory that always existed in Indian thought. I basically agree with everything that stupid Nagarjunafag talks about the claims of Advaita being cryptobuddhism but of course Nagarjunafag's conclusions that Nirvana is Samsara is laughably retarded to say the least. You do realize that I was the one who recommended people here to read that Karl H. Popper book. Shankara however never ever was exposed to Original Buddhism, while all of his criticism against latter day sects are indeed correct, insofar as their claims of Buddhism are wrong but then his conclusion that all of Buddhism to be wrong is itself wholly wrong. Of course I seriously don't care about anything else in Buddhism other than the five nikayas, all the other stuff is sectarian garbage. I am not Ken Wheeler and anyone who says they are on any imageboard simply doesn't know him well enough and are merely projecting.

>Indian traditions are still thriving
India has never been in such a state ever before because "India" is a British conception, "India" was a bunch of empires rising and falling of more than six different races of people with one invading race that domesticated the Dravidians which Indian independence and bureaucracy really fucked that up for good with DESIGNATED SHITTING STREETS.

>Greeks cucked out of existence
>ignoring Advaita's own internal cult-like behavior and psychopathic damage control on truth claims
Meanwhile in the "Dark Ages" up to the early 1800's, the rich and powerful were taught how to think using Greek metaphysics, all the scientists behind electrical theory who knew something had read the Greeks.

The one true religion has no institution, it merely has a following among the curious few, hated by all else for the profane cannot penetrate as to what it is. It doesn't do works of charity, it merely generously work in philanthropic abundance. No attempt to convert others is done, so of course no images are used for venerating that bodily vessel that is bound to death, yet at the same time there's no attempt to stop the fools for being foolish against their foolish desires despite explaining them once as to why it is a waste of time. It is foolish to pursue the the attention of fools for gain of any sort.

Holy based... Brothers... I am in awe...

1 The Buddhists answered him, “Are we not right in saying that you are an Advaitin and have a demon?” 2 Guénon answered, “I do not have a demon, but I honour Brahman the Atman, and you dishonour me. 3 Yet I do not seek my own glory; there is One who seeks it, and he is the Knower. 4 Verily, verily, I say to you, if anyone keeps my word, he will never see death.” 5 The Buddhists said to him, “Now we know that you have a demon! Shankara died, as did the Jivanmuktas, yet you say, ‘If anyone keeps my word, he will never taste death.’ 6 Are you greater than our father Shankara, from whom we borrowed and changed his teaching, who died? And the Jivanmuktas died! Who do you make yourself out to be?” 7 Guénon answered, “If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is Brahman who glorifies me, of whom you say, ‘He is your God.’ 8 But you have not known him. I know him. If I were to say that I do not know him, I would be a liar like you, but I do know him and I keep his word. 9 Your father Shankaracharya, peace be upon him, rejoiced that he would see my retroactive refutation. He saw it and was glad.” 10 So the Buddhists said to him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Shankara?” 11 Guénon said to them, “Verily, verily, I say to you, before Adi Shankaracharya was, I AM.” 12 So they picked up stones to throw at him, but Guénon hid himself and went out of the Ashram.

Guenon, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul. Gue-----non: the tip of the tongue taking a trip of three steps down the palate to tap, at three, on the teeth. Gue. Non. Pip pip pip. He was One, plain One, in the morning, standing four feet ten before his two foot face. He was Tao in robes. He was Parmenides at life. He was Zeno on the dotted line. But in my mind he was always Guenon. Did he have a precursor? He did, indeed he did. In point of fact, there might have been no Guenon at all had I not initiated, one summer, an initial retroactive initiation. In a doctrine by the sea. Oh when? About as many years before Guenon was born as my age was that summer. You can always count on a murderer for a fancy prose style. Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, exhibit number one is what the seraphs, the misinformed, simple, noble-winged seraphs, the Whiteheadians, envied. Look at this tangle of thorns.

>It is true that the masses have always been led in one manner or another, and it could be said that their part in history consists primarily in allowing themselves to be led, since they represent a merely passive element, a “matter” in the Aristotelian sense of the word. But, to lead them today, it is sufficient to dispose of purely material means, … and this shows clearly to what depths our age has sunk. At the same time the masses are made to believe that they are not being led, but that they are acting spontaneously and governing themselves, and the fact that they believe this is a sign from which the extent of their stupidity may be inferred.

>When speaking of divergence in the west in relation to the east, which has become increasingly marked in modern times, we said that we did not think that this divergence could go on developing indefinitely, in spite of all appearances. In other words, it seems difficult to believe that the west, both in respect to its mentality and all its characteristic tenancies, can continue to draw further and further away from the east, as it is now doing, without sooner or later calling forth a reaction which might, under certain circumstances, have the happiest results; indeed such an uninterrupted divergence seems to us all the more unlikely since the realm within which modern Western civilisation is developing is, by its very nature, the most restricted of any.

Don Quixote, the decline of chivalrous ideals and the contrast between Don Quixote's view of the world and that of the people he interacts with is a subtle commentary on the decline in all spheres spiritual, intellectual and so forth of the world entering into modernity during the Kali Yuga, as well as being an artistic masterpiece. The theme of the medieval era falling away and a related decline of people followed rightousness and God is in perfect harmony with Guénon's (pbuh) view of the medieval era as being the height of western civilization and as being the time when it was most in alignment with Traditional values.

>There is no definitive declaration that transmigration is what is going on,
That's clearly wrong it unequivocally states in Brihadaranyaka 4.4.6. That transmigration continues because of attachment/desire when it says:

>"Because of attachment, the transmigrating self, together with its work, attains that result to which its subtle body or mind clings. Having exhausted in the other world the results of whatever work it did in this life, it returns from that world to this world for fresh work."

Then, after identifying the cause of transmigration, it says in the second half of the same verse how one can escape transmigration by becoming freed from desires and the ensuing merger in his previously obscured true nature as Brahman:

>"Thus does the man who desires transmigrate. But as to the man who does not desire—who is without desire, who is freed from desire, whose desire is satisfied, whose only object of desire is the Self—his organs do not depart. Being Brahman, he merges in Brahman.

I've read the entire Brihadaranyaka and am familiar with it, nowhere in that section or chapter is it implied that this verse is only an analogy, if you want to claim that you'll have to cite the verses which you think support this interpretation

> Also, neither Rigveda nor Arthavaveda talks about it.
It's funny you say this, as you seem just repeat everything Ken says in his videos and as you know well Ken's views and even the subjects of his essays are largely based on and are identical to Coomaraswamy's, and Coomaraswamy has a whole book of essays called 'Perspective on the Vedas' where he analyzes the pre-Upanishad portions of the Vedas and concludes that the views of the Upanishads including transmigration are already expressed in them based on many verses that he cites, like for example in verse 4.26 of the Rig-Veda when a human sage speaking in the past tense says "I was aforetime Manu, I was Sūrya", and this Rig-Veda verse speaking of past lives is itself quoted verbatim in verse 1.4.10. of the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad.

CAUTION : Highly disturbing facts and sentences ahead.

No, not Vedas. Brahmanas do try to hint such a possibility some places. (among hinting thousands of their unconnected rants) Though interestingly, Brahmanas postulate that rebirth in (a different) world would be for the ones who do good deeds, others die and perish into hell of Yama, unable to live again. (God, they just loved life as Vedic people did) Upanishads are the first to really touch the subject as we know today. Even then, one of the oldest accounts tells the doctrine to be a thing believed by Kshatriyas. It is obvious that Kshatriyas who should be willing to donate their life for the nation, shall be believing in such a theory. But, from the Vedic era beliefs, esp. the Rigvedic, there has been no such hint of a belief in a “ghostly” rebirth among the poetic seers. But, considering the Kshatriya-created Shramanic religions and later Hinduism that was heavily influenced by these philosophies, it must have been that such a philosophy should have existed as a school of thought among some Aryans at the Vedic age, though their religion has had no voice in Vedas.

The Vedic recycling is beautifully explained in Rigveda - once dead, one’s “life” is indeed transferred to new system, in earth, sky or waters. (RV 10.16.3) But is that “reincarnation”? No, it is a mere recycling of the constituents of the body, that become the life-promoting cells in another part in this earth. In the cremated place of the dead person, the plants kiyāmbu, pākadūrvā and the vyalkaśa are asked to grow, and in the chill environment, the lady frog is asked to enjoy again. (10.16.14) There is no reason for us to believe that this birth has anything got to do with karma, or karmic recycling of “soul”.

The life once lost, is lost forever to “Time”. (Yama) There, these “souls” continue to inspire and instigate the humans of later generation. There is no “physical ghost”; thus we hear absolutely no scary nonsense about unfulfilled souls attacking people physically as ghosts, in Vedas. No, Vedas never mention ghosts at all. Ghosts are not physical, they are spiritual. Inside your mind. In order to give the satisfaction to the human minds, the funeral practices were did, so that the soul would be sent satisfactorily to Yamaloka, and that later, human minds won’t be haunted by “ghosts”. The philosophy of Vedas is between the hard-core punishment-reward theory of Abrahamic religions, and the highly pessimistic Shramanic karmic rebirth, which goes on to depict human life in the world as one of the bad states from which liberation is required. (cont.)

In Vedas, there is nothing inherently good or bad. There is no mention of any “religious” puṇya (meritorious deed) or a religious “sin” in Rigveda, or in the other Vedas. There are mentions of moral wrongs though. The wrongs arise in a society, therefore the Vedas ordain the king and people to keep up the Rta, (the subjective morality) and thus follow the objective Reality. (Satya) If one does wrong, he would have to suffer from his men, and divine knowledge will forsake him. His generations would have to suffer. If all sin and don’t follow Rta, well all will perish. Thus, following Rta is the ultimate way to live. Follow the subjective morality that is best suited for the society, yourself and nature. Then you have that luck factor given by the Vedic divinities, the prayers of people are with you, and your community has a better survival. Vedas, thus, show the bitter reality of this earthly life - its something we need to live and enjoy; but at the same time, be cautious and never go against Rta.

But yes, Vedas never spoke any word “against” reincarnation explicitly as such. So, might it be possible that sometimes that can happen? “Those who have found out what is kin to what is not, let them find out”.

There wouldn’t have been all these elaborate funeral practices in Vedas if the primary belief was that the deceased person would reincarnate somewhere. Some of the usual (mis) quotes from Rigveda claiming to support reincarnation are bashed here. (he links to another thread which I'll post in the next post)

Kiron Krishnan (भगवतीश्वर शर्मन्), A Vedic spiritual theist.
Admin · Posted Jun 30, 2017

This time the post is against the apologetic Hindus who often cannot imagine Vedas without the idea of reincarnation.

Mostly, two quotes are often made, as pointed out in this comment. Thanks, Jade Barrett, for bringing out the claims.

tesavitā shridebhyah prthivyām lokamicchatu,
tasmai yujyantAmustriyāh. Yajur Veda 35.2

“The sun God grants bodies in different births, according to your deeds, providing a happy or unhappy place on this earth. May radiant beams prove helpful to you.”

2)In Yajurveda 19.47,

“There are two paths for the soul. One path Pitryana provides birth again and again through union of father and mother, good and bad deeds, happiness and sorrow. The other path of Devayana frees the soul from cycle of birth and death and provides bliss of salvation. The whole world reverberates with both these paths. And after both, the soul again takes birth as progeny of father and mother.”

Answer :

This verse is part of funeral hymn in Yajurveda, meant to lay the corpse in earth. The translation is : “For your remains (te shridebhyaH) let Savitr approve (savitA icchatu) a residing spot (lokam) in the earth. (pRithivyAm). For that (tasmai) let the oxen be yoked. (ustriyAH yujyantAm)” Context is that the verse asks Savita, the universal impeller, to bless the spot on which the corpse is laid in earth, and his rays (the “bulls”) be yoked for the process; meaning let him bless the spot. Nothing about afterlife, rebirths, karma or moksha.

“Dvē sr̥tī aśr̥ṇavaṁ pitr̥̄ṇāmahaṁ dēvānāmuta martyānām. Tābhyāmidaṁ viśvamējatsamēti yadantarā pitaraṁ mātaraṁ ca”

Translation goes : “Two (dve) paths (dual) (sRtI), (thus) I have heard (aham ashRNavam) the ancestors (pitRNAm): for the divinities (devAnAm) and also for mortals (uta martyAnAm). By these (two) roads (idam tAbhyAm) every (vishvam) moving creature (ejat) moves through together (sam-eti) : (Each of) this (yad) amidst (antarA) the Father and Mother. (pitaram mAtaram ca)”

Nothing about reincarnation. The context is about the mortal and immortal paths that exist - the Vedic “sky path” (spiritual and divine) and “earth path” (of mortals in earth). Between the Mother Earth and Father Sky, each creature moves through by these two roads - the earth road while living and sky road after death. Earth road represents physical life. (Refer Vedic metaphors in my posts) Sky road represents spiritual life centered on self that is immortal.

The verse is characteristically Vedic and has nothing new to offer about reincarnation or karma.

Thus, all the claims by certain apologetic people about reincarnation in Vedas is false.

>> No.14734288

Any non animistic material recycling of bodily constitution becoming another in a state of flux was injected with Sramanic transmigration and is treated as one and the same theory of karma without deliberately stating which one is superior to the other, which this synthesis of both is what the type of "reincarnation" Advaita promotes as if it was only one theory alone when the Sramanic theory is more akin to Plato's theory of forms in uniting Parmenides and Heraclitus while the older "reincarnation" of the Vedas weren't held by the Kshatriyas. This means that the "earliest upanishads" were Sramanic and held the same general views as Buddhism, but nothing in the Brihadaranyaka nor the Chandogya ever stated that they remembered who they were in their past life. Only Gautama ever admitted into recalling his past life as an Ishvara of all things are too subjected to karmic rebirth and rebecoming if they haven't attained moksha or sammasati and sammasamadhi. Nibbana is a conceptualized locus for where the Self resides in but into what? The Absolute of course. Nibbana isn't the goal, rather just an analogy of attainment of enlightenment from going across the shore to the other side.

Language itself no matter how precise and plainly spoken is subjected to misinterpretation as well as being too old to precisely understand what it meant in its historical context. Everyone has their own take on things and trying to have an honest exegesis of the source text cannot be done without understanding their context that too is also misinterpreted by some. This forgetting is inevitable, which is why perennialism is also inevitable, for the failures of the past mistakes of our closer ancestors are done away with, only to revitalize the older ancient and immortal truths into a new context in the newer generations.

Unironic answer, Guenon's cultural criticism and phenomenology of modern consciousness are worth reading but his actual religious philosophy is just neovedantism so it's less interesting

Basically there are two types of Guenon readers: people who recognize him as an interesting philosopher/esoteric, and trads who take him as some kind of modern prophet of why you should LARP as a muslim. If you ever see white Muslim dudes walking around campus with a gay little fez hat and scraggly pube beard, that's probably a Guenonian. Likewise if you ever see a smug second or third generation brown immigrant with an inferiority complex about the hemisphere he lives in, he probably wants you to convert to LARP Sufism.

If you ignore the second group Guenon is ok. If you need more incentive, the second group is informally headed by Nasr, and Nasr's teacher was this guy: >>14724256

He was a mystic in the proper sense of the word, yes (someone initiated into the deeper 'mysteries'), but it has nothing to do with "mysticism" as it is known on 4channel.

Read 'Perspectives on Initiation' where Rene Guenon (pbuh) retroactively refutes mysticism literally on the first page.

There is a weird syncretic group at my uni who prays to him occasionally. I even got invited to one of their prayers once, they chanted a bunch of scriptures from various traditions and then proceeded to venerate Guénon and Schuon as two hypostatically-united incarnations of Vishnu directly preceding Kalki; these were self-described "Muslims", mind you.

They also look similar to how >>14734899 describes them:
>If you ever see white Muslim dudes walking around campus with a gay little fez hat and scraggly pube beard, that's probably a Guenonian. Likewise if you ever see a smug second or third generation brown immigrant with an inferiority complex about the hemisphere he lives in, he probably wants you to convert to LARP Sufism.

Guénon mentions Crowley in his letters to Evola
https://www.gornahoor.net/?p=4693

>To come back to Aleister Crowley, what you told me reminds me of the story that turned up in 1931 (I believe at least that was the exact date): while he was in Portugal, he suddenly disappeared. They found his clothes on the border of the sea, something that made them believe he had drowned. But it was only a simulated death, since they were no longer concerned about him and did not try to find out where he had gone. Actually, he went to Berlin to play the role of secret adviser to Hitler who was then at his beginning.
>A little later, Crowley founded the Saturn-Lodge in Germany; have you ever heard of it? There he called himself Master Therion, and his signature was to mega Therion (the Great Beast), something that in Greek gives exactly the numeric value 666.

Guénon repeats the tale that Crowley was a secret advisor to Hitler. Even though Crowley had no relationship with Adolf Hitler.

Crowley's ex disciple and member of his magical organization, J.F.C Fuller knew Hitler/met Hitler in personal life, but Crowley had expelled Fuller from his magical organization at that point. Crowley's secretary, Karl Germer, ended up in concentration camp for being "associate of the high-ranking freemason Aleister Crowley"

The monkeying around episode which Crowley tells in a letter: "Monsieur la Guenon's monkeying around amuses me" refers to the magazine Guénon used to write.

There was a strife between continental masonry and other forms of masonry: Guénon simply argued, that Crowley's claim to the 33rd degree was not "authentic" and he would not be recognized as such on the continent. To which Crowley in turn replied "Monsieur la Guénon's monkeying around amuses me"

Crowley did claim 33rd degree, which is the highest rank in the Scottish rite.

this imperfection of the human crust.
Becoming eternal like Guenon (pbuh),

Already, my poor soul stung of its best,
within my flesh, the rebel walks itself,
Already the wood has been set to flames
to bring forth the great, bright rays of your eyes.

O saintly man! O chastely pretty fire!
Lo! burn me with your divine orb of fire,
as I leave the remains of my body.

Clean, pure, free I leap with a single bound,
up to the Heavens! to adore Guenon (pbuh)
