First I've heard of Buddhism becoming a thing among Africans outside of a few converts here and there in major cities like Durban in South Africa that have Buddhist Indian and Chinese populations who came in colonial times. There are many, many religious people in China and the country is doing more of a neoliberalism-meets-Han-Fei-with-Maoist-aesthetics thing right now instead of Marxist-Leninist-Maoist socialism in one state. The Chinese government has state-approved Buddhist temples that don't go against Beijing ever, as well as a select few similarly deferential and government-sponsored Christian churches from the big denominations subordinated under the "Three Self Patriotic Movement." They're basically doing what the Nazis wanted to do with their "German Christianity" churches.

Zen is great actually, it is just that it had a shit transmission to the west. People who get irrationally angry about Zen tend to have that particular religious temperament that reaches its peak in Judaism where there is a worship of the written word or the letter. I have no problem insulting the current state of China as a Catholic because the current state of China displays equivalent contempt for the Church. They have demolished churches and cathedrals, they have forced worshipers to pray to pictures of Xi Jinping, they have forced Rome to submit its bishop candidates for review to the CCP, they have destroyed crucifixes and statues of the Blessed Virgin Mary. They have also harassed Christians in Hong Kong and generally treated Christians very poorly.

I have nothing but contempt for China as it currently exists. I would love nothing more than for the entire current government of China to be blown apart in a fiery disaster. I would love for Christianity to sweep across China as it once swept across Rome, and for all those who opposed the Church to be swept away as the enemies of the Church were swept away in the days of the Roman Empire. I have no patience for nor tolerance for China as things stand, since they have no patience for nor tolerance for my Chinese brothers and sisters in Christ.
