Since my post is going to be the only one lit-related in this cringefest of a thread (seriously guys this looks like a failed attempt a making a second Katiegate, not that the first was particularly elevating, but now you're even falling at being degenerates, get your shit together) I might as well answer OP at length.

I did read five books in January. Four novels by Marguerite Duras and a book on the relationship between economics and finance. A strange but pretty enjoyable mix, I'll try to do something similar this month.
If anyone has a good book on economics (preferably not a textbook but not something entirely vulgarised either, I'm not afraid of maths and I don't like reading washed down explanations) feel free to recommend it here.
As for Marguerite Duras, pretty great in her vein, although the allusive style and slight drawn-out strangeness of some situations strike me as forced. But overall comfy reads and an intriguing, hardly forgettable way of painting relationships.

For those interested the Duras novels were The English Lover, The Summer Rain, The Lover of North China and Moderato Cantabile (not sure about the titles in English, I read them in French). My comment above apply to all of them, and I especially recommend The English Lover as an entry into Duras' works. The Summer Rain is also short with a beautiful ending, and Moderato Cantabile, if a bit stranger than those two, makes for a nice summing up of later Duras' take on storytelling. The Lover of North China is longer, more elaborate and I'd say more accomplished overall but also a more taxing read (and not because of length, as it is still fairly short, but it is both more visceral and more elusive, something hard to describe).

Anyway that's it for January folks, see you next month if I still have nothing better to do with my life.

When I look back, the most productive months of my life have not been the ones in which I've read the most.

Also, there's a big difference between reading easy fiction and real fiction, as well as an even bigger difference between reading books in only one language and books in several languages. Last month I read eight books in three different languages. There's a considerable difference in my reading speed for my native language when compared even to English, which is a language I am quite fluent in.
