Take all the book club shit about middle class people wallowing in their own ennui, one could easy make it about middle class blacks who obviously would still encounter racism but it wouldn't be the driving factor in the narrative.

Aside of that their identity is just more interesting, even with less day to day racism, blacks in Murica grow up in a country which historically hates them, more so in the south, so a work of a character navigating between being a Murican but also black and trying to reconnect with their stolen past without getting beat up by cops all the time could work. To say nothing about stories set in Africa.
