That is a bankrupt idealism. It is a fascination of mine to see what they did know and how they lived, but stop worshipping them.

materialism is a sham.
new philosophy is always growing more and more decadent.
we must adopt the ways old the old and incorporate it to the way we live, and rid ourselves of our ego

The fact that so few people can understand the ancient world tells you that this cyclical stuff is trash. There are people who unironically think that Jesus turned water into wine (which isn't a criticism of the religion: we could alternatively say there are people who unironically think that others believed that) for example.

Epicureanism is an old tradition and as it turned out, the proper frame of mind.
“Ego”? We are ourselves alone, however you count the microorganisms, but exist and thrive collectively. A balance is called for there

Not being a student of philosophy, what is your objection to “philosophical materialism”? That it excludes the imaginary world of the spiritual? Sometimes it ignores human emotion, but I think sometimes it’s chief concern if providing for the human space for such expressions.
The “id” is our animal, the ego/super ego is us. To silence it is to dumb ourselves down for some groups ideology's sake.

Anon, you do realize it is impossible to know how much you don't know? You really think we, an insignificant little bunch of creatures in the bum-fuck nowhere section of the universe have life all figured out somewhere? This kind of thinking is what kills empires. It's what causes the pipes to gum up and the torches to run out of fuel. You know why Plato taught students? So they could expand on it.
