I like that even less. It's saying that the ugly story is more likely but you can choose to delude yourself. It's implying non-ugliness is a delusion as well as asserting that my interpretation of reality matters rather than reality itself

and to spell it out even more for you, the point is about god. you can be an atheist because it's more likely, or you can believe in god which is less likely but more rewarding. that's why the guy believes in like three religions at once
you might not like the message, but it's embarrassing that you didn't get it with how on the nose it is
