>He thinks Hamlet is Shakespeare's best play

Nobody contempory with Shakespeare had this opinion, it's so common entirely because a few academics decided it was and everyone else parroted their opinion and read/watched hamlet with that assumption already in their head.

Hamlet is a literal 7 hour play when unabridged, and lacks suspense and energy.

It’s a 4.5 hour play unabridged

Only because modern performances slow it down for people who aren't fluent in Early Modern English.

closer to 7 hours with interval(s) honestly, the pure running time is close to 5 or 6 hours if you include lines from all the sources/quatros, generally they cut lines that scholars believe were added by people other than shakespeare.

Generally it is the first folio text that is perfomed, which cuts heavily, including nearly the whole of 4.4, as well as major edits to 1.1, 1.4,3.4,4.7 and 5.2

Alright, smarty pants, if Hamlet's not the best what is (aside from King Lear)?

I've always been partial to Macbeth, Coriolanus and Richard II.

I think academics are biased against the history plays desu
