Since /lit/ is highest iq board: how to actually beat addictions? I been drinking since i was 13 years old, thats the culture we have here in europe and now im 24 and while i do go on long times without drinking where i substitute with lifting weights, its only a matter of time before i relapse and when i relapse, i relapse badly. I tried to read meditations but i heard even aurel was an opium addict kek.

What books do you recommend

If you drink, you will regret it; if you do not drink, you will also regret it; if you drink or if you do not drink, you will regret both; whether you drink or you do not drink, you will regret both.

I defeated my opiate addiction by completely losing the will to live. Afterwards all external stimulus ceased to be attractive.

no. you will get fat. you need veggies and meats, anon. i eat one foot long sandwich every day, usually with beers or cheap wine. supplement with babybel individual cheeses or carrots in the evening. i walk somewhere around 5000-6000 steps per day. been losing weight, feels good.

just watch your calorie intake and don't eat garbage. and olive oil has more calories than you may think. be judicious when dipping your bread.

You don't. Sorry boss but if you got the bug you got it. I'm a 26 year old American who has drank everyday since age 11, and that is not the culture here. There is no hope. We are forsaken.

You irreversibly damaged your brain because "culture dude". It's funny how you offer opium up as "uhhhh yeah bro, least its not that". Opium isn't neurotoxic, so aurelius didn't have the brain damage and cope you exhibit in your post with your atrocious writing.

Simple. Force yourself to chug a magnesium citrate laxative every time you drink alcohol. You will vomit/shit yourself uncontrollably. In no time at all you'll start to hate and fear alcohol

Yea but then you get addicted to magnesium citrate laxative.

Having a prescription for amphetamines has made it 5,000x easier to avoid booze.

Essentially he saying the desire to be free from something is also a desire, it ultimately comes from the same source. Anyways, OP addictions are serious. I'm a coomer and it's so damn hard to stop. Unironically the other thing that works is semi torturing yourself when you are near relapse and arduous will

Simply stop it. The people you hang around can affect it if they drink all the time and will pressure you. Don't buy alcohol and turn it down when it is offered. Learn discipline so you can drink casually in the future. Maybe you have to abstain forever. Change your internal logic through repetition and the addiction will stop. Just don't drink. Very simple. Don't make it seem complicated.

What has worked for me is just to substitute the bad addictions with good ones. Because of my 'tism I've always been unhealthily obsessed with things that I like, so it usually works for me. I stopped smoking because I forced myself to chose between my addiction to nicotine and my (at that time) newly found running addiction.

No doubt a step in the right direction, but it doesn't fix the fundamental issue. Many of the altar boys that were molested in Boston became obsessed with weightlifting and getting fit. They all still had underlying trauma and personal lives that were a mess.

Set yourself goals and work towards achieving them
ie: Not drink for 1 week
Not drink for 1 month
Not masturbate for 1 week
Not message my ex for 1 week

I agree that the lives of many people are a mess, and I think that it's even implied in my post that my own life is a mess. You have to start somewhere. Some people can handle putting a huge burden on themselves but most people have to improve one step at a time. Willpower is a great thing to have, the problem is that I don't think that OP has it. That's why the best choice is always to do some small change and overtime work on that small change and grow around that small change.
