Can someone explain to me this retarded meme?
>Subvocalization: When you read you hear the words in your head i.e reading like a non autistic person.
>Not Subvocalization: Moving your mouth when reading
How come some speed reading faggots proclaim that it's harmful to subvocalize? They say by "eliminating" the voice in your head you can read faster which is bullshit. You can't. If you try to you just stare at letters, which is retarded. This has to be some pseudoscience bullshit because it doesn't make an sense.

Verse is really grating to read, though

Iambic pentameter makes me want to claw my skin off with my nails.

Yes. But what baffles me is that so many people think that it's somehow wrong, eventhough it's integral to reading.

speed reading is bullshit. i mean yeah you can read fast but you're gonna absorb way less information. i hate that capitalism has commodified our time so much that even reading is supposed to be done in a extremely efficient and productive way at all costs

>subvocalize while reading
>mind drifts off to think about other things while I continue to subvocalize
>2 chapters later realize I haven't absorbed anything

That's subvocalization too though...
Not subvocalization is where you don't need to vocalize the words in your head. People who can read quickly can understand what they are reading without having to vocalize it in their head. Just because you can't do something doesn't make it retarded and not possible.
This doesn't mean that you should buy into some "speedreading" marketed magical buzzword.

You absolutely can eliminate the voice in your head, simply look at the words, get the meaning, and remember it. Well maybe you cant but I and many others cant.

Thing is its pretty unenjoyable of an experience even though its efficient, as another anon said it makes no sense for poetry and frankly it makes no sense for enjoyably written prose either. So I only do it with nonfiction journalistic bullshit.
