At first you should just let it grow and don't cut anything above your Adam's apple. A lot of people make the mistake of trimming too high on their neck and eventually their beard doesn't look full because of it.

Once it is a decent length have it trimmed by a barber so you get an idea of how to do it properly.

A man without a beard is like a man without a foreskin, hardly a man at all.

How do I make sure that my beard does not look onions? I'm pretty manly myself and will start working out soon, but I have seen onions beards even on otherwise chad-like males.
