I literally can't start the Greeks because I don't trust translations. Or any other foreign author for that matter. It feels like I'm doing an disservice to the text by reading some second-hand regurgitation.
What are the languages should I prioritize learning in order to net the greatest literature. I am most definitely starting with French without question (one of the easiest for native English speakers to learn; for the Assimil courses, which many are only in French; and Guenon, of course), but what comes next? German? I want to put of Ancient Greek until I'm absolutely ready for it.

If I didn't want to read, I simply wouldn't; it would be no turn of course from the normalfag mass that binge watch Disney+ and play vidya in their idyllic ignorance. It's only here on this Cantonese corn shucking forum where you faggots promote reading yet nearly none of you actually read, out of some elaborate show of pretense and epeen. Like the metaphysical rambling of some obscure mudfrog means anything in the long run.
I'm asking a genuine question.

learning 4 languages will take so much of your time that could be spent reading, thinking and writing. Also you implicitly believe that your remedial grasp of each language will put you in better stead to comprehend each work than the scholars who have already done that work for you, understanding the milieu of each work far better than someone who has spent their time levelling up their language stats like it is vidya. For shame, OP

Why would you go to German then? Why not Latin? Anyways, if you are so paranoid, just read two disparate translations. There is a whole bunch of old 1800’s ones if you are afraid of modernism’s. Or you could go annotated Greek and cross reference with wiktionary on particular words. Or a modern translation. Basically unless you think there is a super Illuminati that fucks with all extanent texts besides the Greek for some reason, you should be good. Just compatible translation.

if you want to read the fucking books do it. The translations are fine. If your paranoid, which your not youre just a faggot, read translations before the 1980s or 70s and youre golden. You can learn the languages whenever you want, but start now because there is no better time. The order you learn languages in doesnt matter retard. Pick one. Focus on it. Since it is your first language you ever will 'learn' dont take two at once, you can do that much later. Pick what you want to read and that will motivate you. Also this was a collasal waste of fucking time because you already knew all of this and were just too lazy to stop shitposting and get on with reading.

bro when it comes to the greeks you wouldn't understand their words even if you knew the language without twisting them. the worldview and the way language is used beyond the level of grammar is too alien. shit that's quaintly translated in an easy to understand manner is completely different in the original, but it's still a good interpretation for the modern to grasp what was said. the more distant the more you must invest in piercing this. you can't make use of a presentday language's semantic landscape or its cultural references/connotations because they're yet to exist. What I'm saying is it's a bigger investment than you realise.

Why?

If you have a soul the essence of the text will reach out across time and language. If you are a robot obsessed with mechanically reproducing grammar it is doubtful you would gain much even if you could read them in the individual language.
