What are some books that changed your entire perspective on life? Both fiction and non-fiction are welcome.

I knew you'd accuse me of so, but I've read plenty of trash I don't even care to remember, let alone has changed my thinking in anyway.

Maybe certain people just read a lot more than you think, and get a lot more out of what they read than you do?

>> No.14573572

And I'm curious too: how much of what I listed have you yourself read?

Like 5 of them.
Your taste is like a fashion accessory, it's all bleak, edgy and muh existential crisis, except for Tom Sawyer. The fact that you have shit about satanism and the Nihilistic Egoist in there but no a single work by Nietzsche tells me you only have a surface level understanding of the subject. The fact that you only have Ayn Rand's shortest story and neither of her two influential novels tells me you are a pseud.
I hope you are 17 and still have room for improvement and not a bitter 35 year old.

>> No.14573776

>Your taste is like a fashion accessory
Ah so you think I'm posturing. Amusing.
Why wouldn't I just copy what the teenagers on /lit/ have been told to suck off if I was trying to look cool?
The truth is I have my own taste and understanding of the world that stands apart, as well as journey of development to this point I'm at now that perhaps cannot be replicated, and certainly was an accumulation of serendipitous circumstances.
>it's all bleak, edgy and muh existential crisis
Sure. But this is also everything I can recall that was integral to my development from age 8 or 12 up to now, and not even ordered by when I read them, nor marked as how their influence increased or waned over time.
And what is your issue with such a perspective even if I claimed it as my own?
Do you have an issue with nihilism? With existentialism?
>except for Tom Sawyer
You could even put Tom Sawyer in a cynical light.
>The fact that you have shit about satanism
I have to wonder whether you know the first thing about LaVeyan Satanism.
>the Nihilistic Egoist
Have you read that one? You'd surprise me. I'd recommend it any rate---it's a good summary of and substitute for The Ego and Its Own, which I'd still recommend reading selections of.
>but no a single work by Nietzsche
Nietzsche says nothing ultimately that resonates with my way of thinking or applies to my life, at least not in a way that isn't done more efficaciously and relevantly I can get from other works, and to top it off he's absolutely insufferable to read. I mean it when I say I cannot stand his self-indulgent style of writing.
>you only have a surface level understanding of the subject
Says the person bringing up fucking Nietzsche!
>The fact that you only have Ayn Rand's shortest story and neither of her two influential novels tells me you are a pseud
I haven't read Atlas Shrugged nor The Fountainhead and I don't care to. I picked up Anthem by chance and what was written there resonated with me. I've looked at a few opinions and summaries of what I'd get from the novels and decided it wasn't worth my time.
I take high offense to being accused of being a pseud. You want to test me or something?
>I hope you are 17 and still have room for improvement and not a bitter 35 year old.
I'm neither of those ages.
But you seem to be the bitter one with your opinions in this post.
>waaahhh you can only be a nihilist / individualist if you're a teenager why won't you come to god / community
give me a break, lol

I read brave new world as a teen and it helped me sort out the feeling of social inferiority I had developed growing up as a beta. I really took to the idea of class discrimination, it felt only right that you should be with whom you are if you want satisfaction. I remember finishing the book and thinking to myself that there was no higher calling in life then submitting yourself to being the tiniest cog in a machine of great things.

I'm saying you're an obvious pseud because you only read derivative works that only represent one side of an argument. I'm not saying there's something inherently wrong with existentialism or nihilism, I'm saying that if you're only influenced by this and denounce everything else as stupid (die-hard elitist lmfao) you have no actual frame of reference.
