But, all in all, most people have some sort of unfortunate circumstances, that makes their behavior non-ideal.
Perhaps I'm jaded, but in my experience people mostly look after themselves.
I don't necessarily blame them for it, and I don't want to imply that I'm any better either, but I don't expect people to act in a so-called 'morally good' way, when pressed.
There are exceptions, both in the 'bad' and the 'good' side, but in general people are variable, both bad and good, with no real underlying tendency.
I think when asked they will say they're 'good' people, but in reality it is much different.
