If you want an easy way to find out which books are good, I have a solution.

>straight white male authors only
>no women, jews, blacks, gays etc
>check review on amazon
>if 4.5+ stars, ignore it. it panders to lowest common denominator
>enter the reviews and type in the search key words
>sex, sexist, sexism, gay, lgbt, etc and see what people say about the book using those keywords
>"book is highly sexist against women!" good book
>"book goes against sexist tropes and empowers women!" bad book
>look through 2 and 3 star reviews, they were honest enough to not go full 5 star shill or 1 star shill usually
>if the book is part of a trilogy or longer series, do it for each book
>1980's and before tend to be less pozzed
>check authors social media for red flags like pronouns in bio, lgbt flags, current event virtue signaling one liners, telling others who they are voting for and who you should vote for, etc

I havent read a bad book so far.

Any based and sexist sci-fi or fantasy? Read a few books with empowered women and what some would call onions elements but now I want the other end of the stick.

Or how about women who fight in bikini armor? Or strong women who surrender themselves to the alpha males or who get BTFO and put in their place?

What's a SF book that's completely more more than 90% about space combat? There's plenty of high realism sci fi but I think space politics and romances are boring. No no, character drama is fine. But I'd prefer it if it were centered around the technical aspects of the story and the overall goal of the crew. I think something like a subplot about the relationship between the bridge crew, the captain's secret past, or a sabotage attempt or some such thing really adds to the story. What I don't want is the book going in depth about something entirely unrelated to the crew and the operation of the ship.

Are there any good videos or things to read on how to write a book? Like how to organize your thoughts, write out scenes, how to manage pacing, world building, etc. And more common grammar things like general sentence structure, prose, and the like.

More importantly, how the heck would one describe certain things like pic related? Maybe some of you want to take a stab at it to give me a rough example.

I have been plagued with incredibly horrid, lucid, vivid reoccurring nightmares and have been seeing a therapist about it for some time now and one of the things suggested to me was to write about it, and if so inclined turn it into a book. Which is what I was thinking about doing for some time now anyway.

I just have no idea how to go about things.

Fabric of a veil IS thinner than glass. Or at least equal in size, if the glass is very thin. I believe you meant to describe the veil's transparency, not how much space is takes up. So the word you're looking for is "sheer". Beyond a veil so sheer as to be glass.

Are you guys familiar with the Japanese anime and novel/lightnovel GATE Thus the JSDF Fought There?

>random gate appears in modern day tokyo
>roman style soldiers invade and slaughter a bunch of random civilians
>the random street police officers engage with their revolvers
>battle ensues in the streets
>JSDF (military) is deployed
>romans annihilated
>Japan sends the JSDF into the gate and they establish a base
>its a fantasy world with dragons elves etc
>tanks and jets and helicopters fight powerful mages and dragons
>soldiers gun down invaders by enemy kingdom
>get involved in local politics etc
>USA China etc all want in on the resources, Japan in precarious situation
>envoys from Earth and the other word travel to each side

The Lost Fleet series by Jack Campbell would be right up your alley, the protagonist doesn't even leave his flagship until the sequel series. Characters are fairly wooden and two dimensional though.

People will recommend the Honor Harrington series a lot but quite frankly the writing is bad and there's too much politics, and the politics is brainlet level stuff.

If you're up for more Space Opera style stuff, the Spiral Wars series by Joel Shepherd and the RCN series by David Drake are both safe bets.

i want full on modern times vs fantasy warfare.
can you imagine it bomber jets dropping loads on some fucking elf infantry riding some weird elk thing trying to shoot arrows at targets they cant see?
fucking navy seal or marine strikeforces entrenched in small arms warfare with dwarves?
fuck why does no one ever write the interesting portal fantasy.
GATE came kinda close but it still wasnt what i was looking for.

>> No.14561941

A contemporary setting where humans spontaneously produce "memory gems" in the midst of life-changing experiences. The creation of these gems has a karma-trapping property. The "power" used to create the gem is stolen from the "consequence" of the event that spurred its creation, meaning that the future becomes less eventful every time a gem is made. A gem created from a person's near-death experience likely stole its power from the potential real death of that person, meaning they saved themselves by creating that gem. Unfortunately, this also applies to gems created from good experiences, lessening the good consequences. A gem must either be destroyed or permanently separated from its owner in order to release the trapped karma.

Holding a memory gem will allow you to experience the memory related to its creation, but your thoughts have to be somewhere close to the memory in the first place. And that is where the main character comes in. They are a "memory appraiser" who specializes in unlocking memory gems whose owners died without leaving any documentation of what the memory was. Some gems are random finds that could be from any time period, some are from people who died alone trapped in a sea of memories, and some are from victims of tragedy or murder who couldn't trap enough karma to save themselves, but the creation of the gem ensured that others would be saved.

>sequels of the book of the new sun are worth reading?
Urth is divisive since it explains some of the really vague stuff in BotNS and some people didn't think this necessary (I can't see how anyone could have guessed some of the things from BotNS alone, though). It also has a very different tone. Still, it is its own book and doesn't dwell on the earlier events. It revolves around Severian's trial and whether he can actually become the New Sun and what that would mean. I liked the second half a lot more than the first.
I haven't read Short Sun, so I don't know how Long Sun relates to BotNS, but it's very different from New Sun. It focuses on a young priest trying to save his church by solving a conspiracy. The Catholicism is a lot more obvious, but the series is also a lot more light-hearted and easier to read than BotNS. A pleasant experience.
I've heard Short Sun is very good, but I haven't read it yet. It continues from where Long Sun left off.

>Rising into the air was the partial corpse. The whole thing had turned blood red, except the talon-like hands and feet which were burnt black as soot. The remains of its clothing hung - decayed - from its body, now little more than rags. What little skin remained was melting from the body, hanging from the bones like dead leaves. Its organ sat within the skeleton, reduced to a visceral, crimson soup. The strands of hair that hung around the skull like some sort of sorrowful wedding veil obscured the eyes completely, but not the mangled, toothless mouth. Around its head fluttered three black butterflies.

>It stood there with all the regal air of a knight. At its side, the lich held a long, rectangular, black blade that seemed to have shattered and been reattached by whispy roots. Its head was now a skull with two cavernous pits for eyes. From within their abyssal depths could be seen a faint red light, granting the figure a startling sense of intellect. Atop its head was a crown frantic, red light like electricity. Its swollen heart had expanded to fill the entirety of its ribs, some of which were broken and missing to accommodate the bloated organ. A long, dripping cloak like pouring blood flowed down from its left shoulder to lightly skim the ground. The strangest thing about the creature were five crooked and gnarled trees which sprouted from its back. Each was about the length of his sword, and each were a burnt black as if they were the remnants of a great inferno. Their tangled branches almost resembled curled, rigid fingers and were covered with leaves of red so thin and light that they were like a scarlet mist settled on the treetops.

Even as my heart chilled his own beat through the ruins of his chest, and it was larger than lungs, liver and bowels put together. Only then did I realize that the red mantle about his shoulders wasn't silk or gore-slick wool, but raw flesh like that of a skirt steak.

They also have trouble with devices they send to the surface being destroyed by ocean-going hyperpredators.

Ranger-General's Submission started off really smut heavy with the first short story with a bare semblance of a plot, but the sequel went the opposite and I honestly preferred it. This is how i've read it and i understood pretty much everything
The First two Erekose books (Eternal Champion and Phoenix in Obsidian)
The First four Elric books (From Elric of Melnibone to the Weird of the White Wolf)
The First four Dorian Hawkmoon books (The Jewel in the Skull to The Runestaff)
The Oswald Bastable trilogy
The Warhound and the World's Pain
The First three Corum books (The Swords Trilogy)
The last four Elric books (from the Vanishing Tower to Stormbringer)
The last three Corum books (The Prince with the Silver Hand trilogy)
The last three Dorian Hawkmoon books (The Count Brass trilogy)
A Quest for Tanelorn is the last books of Dorian Hawkmoon and the original ending to the Eternal Champion Cycle.
after a quest for tanelorn you can read The Dargon in the Sword, the third erekose novel which technically happens before a Quest for Tanelorn but it was meant to read afterwards.

There are other novels like The Ice Schooner, The Sundered Worlds and the Dancers at the End of Time Series etc but you can read those whenever you want since they are not core novels to the cycle.

Yeah. A failed "literary" author (and convicted child abuser, the state took his kids because he and his wife were keeping them in cages) churning out the most generic potboilers to cash in on the 70s LotR craze.

Liked it as a dumbass teenager who'd read anything but as a adult it's flaws are very obvious and there are better things to spend your time on.

What I hate the most, though, is when a previously white/straight/male/whatever character becomes black/female/faggot/whatever for no reason at all other than to piss off white people and push diversity propaganda. It's even worse in this case since, as you say, Roland's race is a huge mover for the story.

This is almost never true and is just your conception of society as a triggered incel. Casting directors pick people for their genuine talent and potential for a role first, then sometimes to increase representation to grow a fanbase to include minorities or just widen their audience.
Have you tried ignoring race? If your issue isn't when a minorities are characters in a story where their place in society isn't a theme or of importance, then you should be just fine in a story like the dark tower movie (shitty as it was) as no one gave a single shit that Roland was black. Sure, ignoring his race wouldn't had made sense if a sequel with Susannah came along, but you taking issue with Idris's race in that bland, muddy mess of a film where no one stands out doesn't make any logical sense
