Boy do I got news for you. There is a Chinese graphic novel called journey to the west by Zheng Jian He and its basically a sequel to the original one. It plays a couple of hears after our team o' heroes bring back the sutra. Chinese manhuas generally look like ass but this one is different. Just amazing in every way.

I really just find him incredibly charming and funny. Comes off as a hippie dope, which he is in some regards, but knows how to leverage it in his favor. Is shamelessly lame and distinctly weak when contrasted by all of the other hypermasculine characters he's confronted with but he's still able to truck on.
>glanton
Imo the real star of blood meridian. While the kid is undergoing his twisted baptismal journey and judge holden is prancing around like a mystic glanton is encapsulating the violence and depravity blood meridian is associated with. Pythagoras in Metamorphoses, even though he's a just mouthpiece for Ovid. Because of that, really. "Sunt fruges..." is my internal response when people ask me why I'm vegetarian.

But I don't tend to like literature characters very much. Most of them just feel like tools of the author to me.

Oh, Elizabeth Bennet. Proust's narrator. Holden, of course. Tybalt, for some reason. They feel like people to me.

All of them. The fact that he's portrayed differently by different authors is what I find the most interesting. We don't know who or what Hastur is. Even in The King in Yellow where he's expanded upon the most, he makes a brief unexplained appearance as the ghost of a dead falconer. The whole thing is pretty meta when you think about it, the actual King in Yellow character never makes an appearance, he only exists in the play titled The King in Yellow. A story within a story, so that it could be said, in the setting of the book, Hastur is a purely fictional character, as is Cassilda and the lost city of Carcosa. The only thing real about the play is the effect it has on those who read it. My take on it is that Hastur is some kind of constantly evolving thought parasite, and not an actual physical entity. That's why, in meta logic, he is different in each author's interpretation. He is not a character in a story but an ever-changing idea that exists outside of fiction. In a weird sort of way, he is a living, breathing meme.
