The "new" editions of Dover Thrift have the most hideous designs of all time, literally what the fuck were they thinking. The clash of oil paint with an artificial blue-black gradient here is easily one of the most vomit inducing things I've ever seen, without even the humor of a Wordsworth, or even the fucking relative quality binding of one

For some reason, translations of Kenzaburo Oe's books have terrible covers.

All of Picador's McCarthy covers look awful, where a quote from a random person takes up 1/3 of the space. I bought the hardcover of Blood Meridian just to replace my paperback, and luckily I've found most of his other books in the older Picador versions that are good.

I hate Picador. I think the only cover I've ever liked by them is The Man Without Qualities. It actually isn't a bad release of the book but everything else they've done is as bad as the Cormac Mccarthy covers.

DFW always wanted really complex bad covers. You should look at the cover he wanted for Infinite Jest. Apparently the publisher finally overruled him and we got the clouds. Honestly I think the cloud cover is actually pretty good. But once he got some clout post IJ they seem to give him what he wanted as seen with your example.

I personally hate the new aesthetic for Cambridge political thought texts. Especially considering how clean they were before.
