But the problem was that Tiresias predicted that Oedipus would kill his father and marry his mother. They had to throw Oedipus off the cliff, so it's not so much so of a complex that Oedipus had, but out of desire for revenge that seceded from it.

The problem with Freud's psychoanalysis, along with many of the rest of presumptions in the sciences and social sciences, is that they don't know where their assumption leads them to unless its a moot point. That point being that when reading Oedipus Rex, one might THINK that Oedipus WANTED to kill his father and marry his mother, but not otherwise thinking so out of the repercussions that might've prompted the incident BEFORE or AFTER it happened (regardless of complex or not).
