Just got pic related (The Lord of the World) by Rene Guenon as my first intro to his writing. What am I in for?

The first chapter about "Agartha" reads like a Borges short story. He constantly quotes fictional writers and travelers who went on various expeditions to India and recorded the most weird shit happening:

>There was a massive black stone gifted to the Dalai-Lama by the "Lord of The World", the stone mysteriously disappeared 100 years ago and similar stones can still be found all over the world (the Kaabah in Mecca, etc.)
>There is a network of underground cities all over the world called "Agartha" with strange Mongolians and Hindus living inside. Romanian gypsies also apparently originate from this place and it is in some sense the "center of the world".
>A writer he quotes reported that he was a pilgrim to this Agartha, and that during certain religious celebrations one can see other pilgrims passing a mysterious desert where even the animals always remain silent.

I'm not sure how I should interpret this story, but he is quickly becoming my favorite fiction writer. I see why this board likes him.

In the table of contents he also talks about "MELKI-TSEDEQ" and "Metatron". Do I have to be familar with the Old Testament before reading further?
