I like 3 best, but then my graphic designer wife told me to get 8 cause it looked better and I figured she would know and then I remembered an interview with DFW where he said he didn’t like the cover they picked but I didn’t know which one he was talking about but I felt like it was the one I liked so I got 8 because I left my first copy on a plane and wanted to read it again but 8 turns out to have those fucking ripples like page end things so you can’t flip the pages fast and I was like what the fuck I NEED to go back and forth for like the footnotes and I don’t even LIKE this cover I should’ve just gotten the one with the clouds cause that one is my favorite, even though my wife’s a professional it’s MY BOOK she never even read it
Plus I never figured out why with the clouds is it from CTs wall paper? That’s what I thought but now I can’t be sure because I never finished my rereading of it because of the fucking rippled pages

The postmodern irony, Pynchon wrote with flat humor and satirized more than anything else in his work. Dfw thought these writers lacked heart, or "authenticity", when in fact he just wanted sentimentality. Wallace was overly sentimental and thought books that weren't were inauthentic, and unemotional.
