The ancient Greeks, as is clear from numerous myths, texts, and recorded casual asides, believed that women are "fuck-crazy" sexually obsessed anarchic beasts.

Modern people believe otherwise, first based on Christian-Germanic cultural assumptions, then on the secularized variety of these.

Thoughts?

not sure this is going to be a great discussion to have on the same site that hosts /r9k/

Celts and Slavs disagreed. Paul the Apostle was severely sexist though, with regards Christianity.

The Church also understood this very well and devised a strategy for containing female sexuality. I think it was remarkably successful too.

>> No.1449701

You want thoughts of your interpretation, or of women? Of the first, why were gods always raping them? Fuck-crazy beasts would give it up without a fight. I think the Greeks found women lacking in reasoning ability. YMMV

Actually if you look at the context it's not sexist against women. At face value compared to our modern society it is.

Hera, Athena, Jocasta, Penelope and Diana would like a word with you.

So would Kriemhild and Brunhild.

Is it because I act like an insensitive cunt, hate rape victims and starving children, and laugh at other peoples' pain?

>Athena
Athena is a very masculine goddess.
This is in part due to her strange birthing circumstance.
You will remember, of course, that Zeus gave birth to her.

Essentially, her virginity is a direct result of her masculinity.

The fact that Zeus gave birth to her has nothing to do with her being masculine. She was born out of his head, and thus quite bright. Never heard of her being masculine. Ya crazy jack-weed.

Actually, on the subject of masturbation, I quote my books on the Psychology of Sex:
p 243, book I:
As to whether masturbation is more common in one sex than the other, there have been considerable differences of opinion. Tissot considered it more prevalent among women; Christian believed it commoner among men; Deslandes and Iwan Bloch hold that there are no sexual differences, and Garnier was doubtful. Lawson Tait, in his Diseases of Women, stated his opinion that in England, while very common among boys, it is relatively rare among women, and then usually taught. Spitzka, in America, also found it relatively rare among women, and Dana considers it commoner in boys than in girls or adults.* Moll is inclined to think that masturbation is less common in women and girls than in the male sex. Rohleder believes that after puberty, when it is equally common in both sexes, it is more frequently found in men, but that women masturbate with more passion and imaginative fervor.^...
^This latter opinion is confirmed by Näcke so far as the insane are concerned. In a careful study of sexual perversity in a large asylum, Näcke found that, while moderate masturbation could be more easily traced among men than among women, excessive masturbation was more common among women. And, while among the men masturbation was most frequent in the lowest grades of mental development (idiocy and imbecility), and least frequent in the highest grades (general paralysis), in the women it was the reverse. (P. Näcke, "Die Sexuellen Perversitäten in der Irrenanstalt," Psychiatrische en Neurologische Bladen, No. 2, 1899.)

Laugh at the age of the findings, but I think it ameliorates the integrity of the evidence, since the fact that women are more persistent and passionate in their auto-erotism than men, that it makes them more inclined towards sex despite many futile attempts recorded in media by men towards women.

>She was born out of his head, and thus quite bright
A common misconception. Intelligence was thought to reside in the stomach by most Archaic/Classical Greeks. The role of the 'stuff in the head' (encephalos) was debated by intellectuals for quite a time without any particular view prevailing. A common view was that the brain was some sort of semen depository--semen would flow from the head to the penis through the spinal cord you see. Others thought it some sort of body-heat regulator.

As an aside, the whole intelligence in the stomach thing adds a rather important level to the myth in which Zeus eats Metis. Metis, as some of you surely know, means wisdom. I hope you can see where I'm going with this.

My High-School Classics teacher was a keen feminist and liked to explain this birth myth as a way of devaluing women - taking away their sacred status as childbirthers.

This could perhaps help explain why Athena is so masculine. She was born of concentrated semen!

If you are attractive, you can fuck any chick you go to work with. Especially if you are the hottest guy there. Chicks masturbate to fantasies more than porn, and usually just by thinking about people in real life. I fucked four out of seven fuckable chicks at my job already, and one is married and one has a boyfriend. They literally can't control themselves. Never blame a girl for cheating because she literally cannot control her urges. It's people like me that realize women cannot control their sexual lust that cause women to cheat.

>> No.1450842

I think the difference is that for the Greeks, women having sexual desire and urges wasn't seen as a bad thing.

But for western society (starting from Christianity), women being sexual was scary. Why? Probably either due to help with procreation or because men wanted the authority over the women and wanted to promote monogamy (at least on the woman's behalf).

You can still see it today with both men and women being sex-crazed but there being slight guilt for women on that behalf. Though views are changing and women are becoming far more open and free about being sexual.

>> No.1450853

There is a huge difference in attitude toward sex depending on the size of the community. In big cities, everyone sleeps around. In small towns it happens less often, or is scandalized.

>> No.1450983

To me it seems as if you're the one who control their lust, and that in reality, the women are taking advantage of your uncontrollable need to have sex. Unless, of course, each of those women are also having sex with every other male at your job, but I highly doubt that.
